Montfort Junior School, Monday, February 26, 2007 – A clash of the mini titans took place at the Montfort Junior School on this Monday afternoon, as Montfort Secondary beat Singapore Sports School 3-2 to be crowned as the Kings of C Boys badminton in the North Zone.
:God Bless You, Asraf! We all love you!”
A deadpan voice boomed cheekily over the sound system, drawing some laughter from the crowd. Montfort’s Mohd Asraf, 13, looked over and smiled shyly at the supporters at the sideline, as he was getting warmed up for the face-off with Sports School’s Kirk Lim, also 13, in the first Singles match of the day.

Singapore Sports School, Friday, February 23, 2007 – A pumped-up Yio Chu Kang side faced their formidable hosts who were equally determined to continue their winning streak since the competition began. The game started off well for Yio Chu Kang. They gained possession and scored the first goal with the girls showing no signs of stage fright at all. Sports School matched them point-for-point until 3-3 in the opening minutes. That was the only time Yio Chu Kang achieved parity for the entire match.

Seng Kang Secondary, Monday, 26 February 2007 – A Red Sports fan emailed me this afternoon with the news that Marsiling Secondary beat Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary 2-1 while Sengkang drew with Yishun Secondary 1-1.
With these results, Marsiling and Yishun move on to the Nationals.
Sengkang led 1-0 at halftime, their goal scored by Muhammad Khairi Bin Iderus. After a scramble in the middle of the pitch, Sengkang’s no. 6 Khairi laid the ball of to his teammate no.19 Muhammad Khairi who, from the centre of the pitch, curled the ball into the top left corner of the goal.
Sengkang’s #11 was also sent off after 2 yellows cards. One yellow was for shirt-pulling while the other was for dangerous play. On a pitch that was bad and muddy because of the rain, the referee also had some bad calls for the match but that wasn’t the reason Sengkang lost, according to ‘Adek Montel’, “We lost because of the lack of finishing in the match!”

North Vista Secondary beat Northland Secondary 35-13 in a crucial ‘B’ Division encounter last Friday.

From the opening whistle, North Vista took control of the ball, the court and the play through the effective combination and excellent teamwork of every member on court. In a matter of minutes, they were up 3-1 and then 6-1. When Northland had possession, the North Vista girls time and again speedily closed down their available passing options, with solid marking, crucial interceptions and forcing them into many unfortunate turnovers. From many of these turnovers, North Vista’s Wing Attack (WA), Wing Defence (WD) and especially their Centre, were instrumental in delivering superb fast balls to their Goal Attack (GA) and Goal Shooter (GS), who were very sharp and accurate in the D area. At the end of the quarter, North Vista had a commanding 8-2 lead.

Seng Kang Sec, Monday, February 2007 – A Red Sports reader dropped us a line to let us know that the Sengkang football team is in a do-or-die game tomorrow.
The situation in his group is as follows:
| ‘B’ Division | P | W | D | L | Pts |
| Marsiling Sec | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 6 |
| Ahmad Ibrahim Sec | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 3 |
| Yishun Sec | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 3 |
| Sengkang Sec | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
Ahmad Ibrahim Sec will take on group leaders Marsiling Sec tomorrow while Sengkang Sec will play Yishun Sec.
The top two teams qualify for the Schools Nationals.
For Sengkang Sec to have any chance of qualifying for the Nationals, they will need Marsiling to beat Ahmad Ibrahim while they have to win their game against Yishun.
Good luck, Sengkang. Let us know the results after the game.

At stake in this encounter was the coveted right to be called the North Zone ‘C’ Girls Badminton Champions 2007. On the adjacent court, another battle was looming – the fight for the 3rd and 4th placing between Anderson Sec and St Joseph’s Convent.
The battle commenced in the 1st Singles with the captains of both the teams facing each other across the net. It could have been a strategic move by both teams to play their respective captains in the opening match, or sheer coincidence. Winning that first point would be a great psychological boost to the leading team, and a mental dampener for the trailing team.

Outram Secondary outwitted Raffles Institution in the dying seconds of this winner-take-all game to beat them 47-46, securing themselves a place in the South Zone semi-finals at the expense of the Raffles boys.

Equally matched, Outram had better team skills and coordination, but RI impressed tremendously with their power, grit and mental strength. With both sides still trying to find their rhythm, the first quarter ended with Outram leading with a disappointingly low 12-9 score line.
As the second quarter started, Outram seemed to warm up better. A few well-executed pick-and-rolls and a few crucial two-point and three-point contributions from playmaker no.8 Cornelius Foo helped Outram pull the lead to 28-18 by the end of the quarter.

Gan Eng Seng Sec’s centre and capt, no.11, Clarence Leong in action against Henderson Sec
On centre-court, the Gan Eng Seng boys in all-white wasted no time showing everyone who was boss. After a slow start in the first quarter, with the score at 15-10, Gan Eng Seng took matters into their own hands and switched the game pace at the beginning of the second quarter with a half-court press tactic. Within just five minutes, they pulled away with a 13-point lead.
Gan Eng Seng’s skilful playmaker no.6 Jia Rong dazzled with his left-hand dribbling and passing and his right-hand shooting. Small forward, no.7 Yap Kian Leong also impressed – his long lithe physique and quickness gave him much advantage in cutting passes and making explosive fast-breakaways. Together with centre and captain no.11 Clarence Leong, whose powerful rebounds in the paint practically shut everyone else out, Gan Eng Seng left the Henderson boys scoreless with a 34-10 first-half whipping.
