RedSportsXI – 1,222 readers cast over 5,009 votes to choose their best 11 A Division footballers
RedSportsXI
POLLS CLOSED MIDNIGHT, FRIDAY, MAY 23.
Hi football fans and players,
The poll is over and before we get into the best 11 players, I must add that this poll is the most popular on Red Sports so far. As with all reader-generated polls, controversy abounds. Some have said the top 11 are not the best and are just a reflection of their popularity in school and mobilisation efforts by their friends. Well, so be it. No poll is perfect and if the best 11 were just picked by me and a couple of coaches, what’s the fun in that yeah? I’d rather let you guys do the picking.
So, here’s the RedSportsXI based on the votes:
Pierson Ang (#20, goalkeeper, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Adam Yuu Douglas (#26, defender, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Khairil (#23, defender, Meridian JC)
Gavin Lee (#13, defender, Victoria JC)
Fazli (#7, right-back, Meridian JC)
Mohamed Aswad (#10, midfielder, Millenia Institute)
Mahdi (#23, midfielder, Meridian JC)
Nathaniel (#12, centre midfielder, St Andrew’s JC)
Muhd Afrizal (#19, left winger, Jurong JC)
Alex (#10, striker, Victoria JC)
Chong Kuo Loon (#17, striker, St Andrew's JC)
So six schools have representatives on the RedSportsXI team. I think that’s a nice spread of schools and shows that no school has succeeded in spamming the poll in any great way. It also shows that there is talent spread out across the schools, players whose skills have impressed a wider selection of readers.
Out of curiosity, I decided I would list the next 11 players by vote. So here they are:
Alfred Yue (#1, GOALKEEPER, Jurong JC)
Lim Jun Liang (#5, defender, Victoria JC)
Matthew, (#3, defender, Meridian JC)
Warrick Wee (#7, right-back, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Luo Yu Kai (#18, centre-back, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Cedric Goh (#8, centre midfielder, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Nicholas Kang (#17, left winger, Victoria JC)
Jeremy Ong (#2, midfielder, St Andrew's JC)
Chester Lum (#16, midfielder, Victoria JC)
Anders Aplin (#9, striker, Victoria JC)
Daniel Kao (#14, striker, Anglo-Chinese JC)
If anyone can tell me what position Irwin Goh (#14, position?, St Andrew's JC) plays, he might warrant a position in the second RedSportsXI. I’ve left him out in the meantime because I don’t have that information.
So there you have it, the two best teams at A Division level according to the readers. Now, I don’t know about you, but I would pay good money to watch these two teams play. And if got to pick my players, I would add someone like Augustus Set (#7, midfielder) of St Andrew’s in my team cos that guy plays beautiful football. Augustus was a very late addition in the poll because he wasn’t nominated early by readers.
Although I only got to watch the semi-finals of the A Division, I was struck by the level of skill on display. It was a joy to watch. Also what was missing was all the nonsense you see from the English Premier League – diving, trying to get opponents sent off, arguing with the referee. Most players conducted themselves with decorum, dignity and manliness. My hats off to you.
So now, if you guys really want to watch RedSportsXI (A) vs RedSportsXI (B), and the players really want to play that game, hey, let me know. Maybe we can form a committee with 3 to 4 people and get this executed. I’m not doing this alone, that’s for sure!
Red Sports. Always Game.

Harrison deserves more votes!!!!
then surely all stars of redsports wins. seriously.
whether ALL stars or not.. the ball is still round. it does not mean the ALL starts will win because we have to consider the fact if they can work together as a team in the first place, many good players now in the A div are not really recognized due to the fact that they cant work with their team or their team cant work with them. so it would be interesting to see this”ALL STAR match.
i ask you ah? why navin #45 wasnt unleashed yesterday? i heard he very good. superb vision, touches and especially header!
Oi Fang Jia Bin is from Meridian GIRLS soccer la. GUNDU or whatt?
WOW! winning the finals was really great.
DD
i think mahdi and khairil are the best!
mahdi runs damn fast while keeping the ball in perfect control.
how in the world he manages that, no idea. plus hes cute. hur.
khairil is the epitome of what a team captain should be like.
hes humble and respects everyone in the team, and he gives his heart and soul in every single match he plays. (:
VOTE FOR THEM!
Alex (#10, striker, Victoria JC)
Anders Aplin (#9, striker, Victoria JC)
Nicholas Kang (#17, left winger, Victoria JC)
Chester Lum (#16, midfielder, Victoria JC)
Wei Liang (#20, left-back, Victoria JC)
Gavin Lee (#13, defender, Victoria JC)
Jonathan Tan (#2, right-back, Victoria JC)
Asyraf (#26, left-back, Victoria JC)
Lim Jun Liang (#5, defender, Victoria JC)
Yap Heng (#7, right midfielder, Victoria JC)
where is Joel!?! Where is vj goalkeeper!!??
lol the vjc keeper rocks! he super good!
kuoloon is so CUTE luh !
KUOLOON is cute?oh please.GET YOUR EYES CHECKED MAN.i see him in school everyday and he is nowhere near cute!
yes! joel should be inside! he’s super good and his kicks are AMAZING
haha
ya the vj keeper is damn good
he’s the reason why vj made it to the final
too pro ready i really think he’s the best keeper out there.
yes uncle les..i think u shud organise a game between the two teams..maybe u can send out letters to the schools of the players n get their availability for the game!!
Why is dere onli 2 mj player in the 1st 11. Must b joke. The whole of MJ is veri good, technically i mean. Though sometimes, they are veri loud in sch, i tink they are a very cool bunch of ppl. I played street soccer with most of dem b4 and you shud just see how they play. Madi is like the most skillfull player i ever see! I tink dis boys deserve recognition because dey are always underrated as compare 2 vj soccer boys( who iheard from my vj friend is a very ya-ya-papaya ppl in sch ). mj soccer boys are jokers!
and i think nicholas kang of vjc is THOUSAND TIMES BETTER THAN THAT AFRIZAL OF JJC.i bet that guy got his friends to vote for him.i think there are much better playes around than him.with all due respect,im just stating my opinion.i mean the REDSPORTS X1 A looks fine except for the afrizal guy.i have watched both afrizal n nic kang.and nic kang will win afrizal hands down anytime.he sorta spoils the first X1
Hello MJC. While this voting is for the fun of it, it’s not a joke. Are you calling 1,222 readers who voted jokers? Think before you type.
As for organising the game, I think the players would have to express their personal interest to me first before I would even contemplating organising anything.
I would also need 4-5 volunteers on the organising committee.
So players, if you are interested, you can express your interest by leaving a note in this comments section and emailing me at les@redsports.sg
kuoloon is good looking. anw how come augustus set no7 not in? seems like he is sajc’s key player
if the best 2 teams are playing,
do put up a big headline on the web!
i wanna watch!
kuo loon is hot please..tsk~ my eyes are perfectly fine!
KUOLOON IS HOT?eeeeee.get real.you are prolly kuoloon himself calling yaself hot.
uncle les… that afrizal and mahdi, both left winger… so both cannot be in first 11.. so mahdi shud stay as left winger while maybe promote a centre mid into the 1st team. yeah i think augustus shud be in the 1st team.
hello mjc. this is a poll of 11 best footballers, not the 11 nicest footballers. so what if the mjc team has very nice ppl that you can play street soccer with huh? it doesnt mean anything. and you shouldnt say that vjc soccer boys are “ya-ya-papaya” just becase your friend says so. i’m sure your friend doenst know them personally. some of the players are my friends and they are really nice people even though they do seem a bit intimidating in a big group. but which big group of people doesnt look intimidating?
im an expert on football..lol..if there is really a match b/w these 2 teams even though not likely pls put it up
Harrison (#25, striker, Jurong JC) is a class act of his own. check out this guy man. guess redpsorts have not really reach to all the JCs. you can see from the polls and comments that there are only few JCs that are active here.
we’ve to create much more awareness to more schools of the existence of redsports. i totally think this website is awesome.
uncle les.. i think the match is a fantastic idea!
haha.. and i think that if the players are to play, the june holidays would be a great idea.. cos they’d still have their fitness and all.. so yea.. try to get sponsors k? kudos redsports!!
Well, no one has contacted me, neither the players or any readers to volunteer to organise it.
So I don’t think it will happen this year.
Nice idea though.
uncle les,i think it’d be great if like you sent a letter to the schools of these players and inform them about your intention to organise this game.and im sure the school would support the idea and get the player to participate and im sure the students would also be informed and they;d be more than interested to come and watch the game.im sure this would work.because maybe some of these players may not even know such a poll exisits.
hey.. is anyone here related to any of the players? can ask them if they’d like to participate in this match? i think its a great idea and would go to waste if not executed.. so yea.. uncle les, try to get the field and jerseys?
you can try contacting the schools ?
players from MJ are supportive of the idea. they’re ready to go. hmm but what about the rest eh? anyone knows them? can help ask?
I think this year may not be realistic. To organise this requires a few months of planning to do it right, so if you are interested to help out, you can sign up for the working committee for next year.
but uncle les,all the good players are in the team..they might not be playing in A DIV nxt yr..seriously,the redsports XI is a really strong team except maybe agustus from SA shud replace that afrizal guy.i really wanna see mahdi and aswad terrorising defences with their wingplay and alex and kuoloon finishing thee chances.its a really superb attacking team.please please organise a game.im sure they would even be willing to play end of the year.so yea.lets not let this chance pass us by.
i agree that agustus is good.i think afrizal shud play in this team. hes an excellent player but didnt have a chance to perform.i think the match is a great idea. we shud try to make it happen this year.
dont try leh.. lets make it happen ah.. get the guys to come down man!!! but right.. uncle les, the jerseys all how ah? field can be provided by any school that has the artificial pitch.. jj, nj, mj, vj, tpjc, sports school.
Aiyah, you guys still going on about this.
There are two things I will do for you:
a. get a sponsor for the jerseys
b. cover the game
The volunteer committee – no one has volunteered by the way – has to do the following:
a. contact all players
b. arrange the pitch
c. arrange for refs
Like I mentioned, I can’t do it on my own. If you guys REALLY want to see this happen, then, we need some action here.
I will only go and look for a sponsor only if there is a firm commitment on your part.
You can email me at les@redsports.sg if you can form a committee of 3-4 people to spread the work around.
Also, if you contact the players, it obviously cannot just be 11 players. You will need a squad of about 18-20 players and allow unlimited subs for the game so that everyone gets to play. No point coming down and sitting on the bench.
hmmm.. okay.. uncle les, how do we go about getting the subs? i mean.. how to choose? think players like gus should be in either squad A or B. hes not even in it considering the skills hes got so yea..
The easiest way to get subs would be to take the next 8 players based on votes.
As for Gus, I think nobody would object to him taking a slot in either team cos he obviously deserves to be there.
all ac players are ready to go too. any other schs?
cool. MJ and AC on already. can anyone contact the people from SA, JJ, VJ, MI?
Vjc, tan_yew_hwee@moe.edu.sg –> email tan yew hwee bah.
so is the game still on??sounds really mouthwatering!!
should be.. we’re in the midst of getting the players. yea.. stay tuned.
i think it’d be a nicer if the all stars of group A vs all stars of group B..or else the redsports first XI vs redsports second Xi MIGHT BE ONE SIDED..so yea..
plz lah u tink second XI tht lan ah???
i think redsports should just go with the fist plan. best eleven agianst second eleven. really hope it works out. will be an amazing match to watch.
uncle les.. is this match gonna be played? heard adidas gonna sponsor.. so i hope it’ll be played..
adidas is willing to sponsor, I’m willing to cover, but nobody has stepped forward to ORGANISE it.
someone pls organise this mouthwatering game can?
wow,i only just found out about this website a few days back.hahah.really honoured to be nominated.thank you to all =)
