Kallang Netball Centre, Monday, June 23, 2008 – Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary beat Dunman High 59-10 despite the absence of their coach in an Under-17 National League netball match earlier this week. The discipline of training hard from 8am to 11am, 3 times a week, during the school holidays paid off for Kuo Chuan and it was sweet victory for them.

Teamwork was key for Kuo Chuan. Whenever one of their players lost possession of the ball or committed a mistake, the whole team would motivate each other with calls of, "It's ok, get the ball back." Teachers and friends were also on hand to lend extra motivation. Good understanding and communication was obvious between the Kuo Chuan Goal Attacker (GA) and Goal Shooter (GS) as they knew when to shoot or to pass the ball to each other. When one got sandwiched by the defender, the other would help her out.

"The defeat of my team before this match made us work even harder," said Liyana, a senior member of the Kuo Chuan team, referring to the 3-83 thrashing they received at the hands of River Valley in an earlier match. The victory over Dunman High showed that they did not let that stinging defeat overcome their motivation for the next match.

Although Dunman High lost this game, they put up a very good fight against Kuo Chuan. Both teams did well, showing determination and passion and it is heart-warming to see our fellow Singaporean youths having such sporting attitudes.
