Singapore, July 2, 2008 – Nine water polo nations will drop by Singapore at the end of this month for a five-day tournament as part of their preparations for the Beijing Olympics.

With Singapore’s clean climatic conditions ideal for their Olympic preparations, Australia, Croatia, Germany, Italy and Montenegro will make their appearance at the Singapore Sports School from July 21 to August 4, 2008. On the women’s side, the Chinese national team will make a trip out to face Italy, Greece and Russia.

Water polo is Singapore's most successful team sport, with the Singapore men's national team winning an unprecedented 22 consecutive team gold at the SEA Games. While our team is no where near global standards, the tournament will be an opportunity for Singapore water polo players and fans to see for themselves the standard of world-class teams.

Mr Ivan Tan, Vice President of Water Polo, Singapore Swimming Association, said: "We are proud to play host to such a high calibre world-class sporting event. This is a great boost towards our aim of making Singapore the water polo hub of Asia."

Tickets for the event are available online from www.ticketsas.com. Prices include $60 for a 5-day tournament package, and $25 for a day ticket.
