Beijing, Wednesday, August 20, 2008 – Three Singapore paddlers made their way to the next round after winning their respective singles games today.

In the men’s singles, China-born Yang Zi beat Portugal’s Marcos Freitas 4-2 (11-4, 6-11, 2-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-6) to move into the third round.

In the women’s singles, China-born Singaporean Feng Tianwei beat South China-born South Korean Dang Yeo Seo 11-4, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 to qualify for the Round of 16.

Li Jiawei beat Croatia’s Boros Tamara 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5 to also qualify for the Round of 16.

Singapore’s Wang Yue Gu was defeated in an upset match by Wu Xue of the Dominican Republic. World no. 7 Wang was beaten by Wu, who is ranked 50th, 4-1 (9-11, 11-9, 2-11, 8-11, 10-12).
