Are national footballers Indra and Precious likely to go in major team overhaul?
January 30, 2009
By Koh Yizhe and Les Tan

It’s almost full-time on the international career of Indra Sahdan Daud. The striker wasn’t even on the bench to watch his teammates play Jordan in the 2-1 win, citing a twisted ankle. (Photo © Les Tan/Red Sports file photo)
With his successful new lineup in Singapore’s 2-1 win over Jordan, the time has probably come for national coach Raddy Avramovic to undertake a major overhaul of the national squad.
He showed his commitment to team renewal when he dropped senior players Zulkarnaen Zainal, goalkeeper Rezal Hassan and Rafi Ali when he took over to accommodate younger players like Khairul Amri and Baihakki Khaizan.
Given the starting lineup last night, it is probable that Indra Sahdan and Precious Emuejeraye are prime candidates for the chop.

Want to eat healthy? Try dirt.
January 29, 2009
Growing up in Singapore, you might at some point have been told by your grandmother as she picks up a fishball that has fallen on the floor, blows on it, and pops it into your mouth – lak sup jiak, lak sup tua.
It’s a piece of Hokkien wisdom that roughly translates “eat dirty, grow up dirty”, meaning that consuming a bit of filth has a fortifying effect on one’s growth.
It now appears that there is science to back up what our grandmothers have known all along. An article in the International Herald Tribune reviews ongoing research into the hypothesis that the bacteria, viruses and worms that come along with a dose of dirt, help to develop the body’s immune system.

Daniel Bennett played in the centre of defence in Singapore’s 2-1 win over Jordan last night and that was a major reason why the Lions’ Asian Cup football qualifying campaign is back on track.
Bennett replaced Precious Emuejeraye who has had a difficult time in the central defensive position. Precious’ lack of mobility was cruelly exposed by the Vietnamese in the 0-1 semi-final loss that knocked defending champions Singapore get knocked out of the ASEAN Football Championship (Suzuki Cup).
