Singapore Indoor Stadium, Wednesday, June 10, 2009 – Singapore’s top women’s player Xing Aiying swept aside her Danish opponent Nanna Brosolat Jensen 2-0 (21-7, 21-18) in Round One of the Singapore Badminton Open.
The current world number number 26 had a relatively easy first set, storming to an 18-6 lead after taking nine consecutive points. Brosolat Jensen, who is currently ranked 33rd in the world, put up a fight in the second set, holding off Aiying for much of the game. It was only at the 13-point mark did Aiying level the score and surged forward to take the set and the game.
Aiying will play second seed and world number three Wang Yihan from China in the second round. Wang Yihan finished off her Japanese opponent Megumi Taruno in straight sets scores of 21-15, 21-13 earlier on.
