Singapore Indoor Stadium, Thursday, June 11, 2009 - Former champion Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand thrashed sixth seed and world number eight Simon Santoso of Indonesia 2-0 (21-11, 21-7) in the round of 16 of the Singapore Badminton Open.
The Thai finished off his opponent in 27 minutes despite a slow start. After he was settled, he quickly scored eight consecutive points at 12-9 to reach game point for a massive 11-point lead.
Despite saving two game points, Simon Santoso was unable to prevent Boonsak from taking the set 21-11.
Set two was a breeze for the world number 19th as he stormed to a 7-0 lead. There was no stopping him from there as he was overflowed with confidence and he easily took the set and the match 21-7.
With this victory, Boonsak Ponsana will next play India’s Anup Sridhar in the quarter final after the latter deposed second seed Peter Gade of Denmark 21-19, 16-21, 21-13.
