Singapore Indoor Stadium, Thursday, June 11, 2009 – Fourth seed Chen Jin of China fended off the challenge of England's Rajiv Ouseph to win 21-19, 21-16 and reach the quarter-final of the Singapore Badminton Open.
The first set was a close affair with Rajiv Ouseph, who is ranked 30th in the world, putting up a strong challenge to the world number six.
His carefully placed shots caused trouble for Chen Jin, forcing him to scramble around the court and Chen Jin was fortunate to win the first set 21-19.
The second belonged to the higher ranked player as he stormed to an early lead and held it for the rest of the set, scoring seven consecutive points. Rajiv Ouseph had no reply to Chen Jin’s smashes and the Chinese player wrapped up the set and the match 21-16.
Chen Jin will next play Jan Jorgensen of Denmark for a spot in the semi-final after the latter beat Eric Pang of Netherlands 18-21, 21-18, 21-15.
