@passerby: When we did the vote in 2008, we also did not promise a reception at the start of the voting. So everyone voted for their friends just to support them, not because there was any reward or party at the end of it.

We decided to have a party/reception only at the last minute because I had some extra funds.

Last year’s financial crisis affected us and our biggest sponsor cancelled an advertising deal with me, leaving me in a lurch, i.e., no money.

I’m sure you understand that as a site that is free for readers, I have no constant revenue stream. I have to be careful with the money that I spend because it comes out of my own pocket.

Hopefully, I can get a sponsor for this year’s vote.

However, having said all that, would you like it if I organised a lunch for the top 5 in the vote for boys and girls? I think I can buy you all lunch!

So can you help me get in touch with the top five and then email me at lesATredsports.sg? Then we can fix a time.

cause there was a a ceremony for the winners of the year of 08 and i believe alot of voters showed their support as they felt that the athlete they voted deserve that kind of reception and it will be disappointing to the thousand over voters who voted if it wasn’t the same this year

@passerby: As you can tell from the many polls we’ve run, we don’t promise any prizes or tokens. Same with this poll.

The polls are reader-generated and meant to acknowledge all the nominees for taking part in sports.

I think the honour from being nominated and getting votes is worth more than any tokens?

this competition is not about achievements, it does not say Most Achieved Athlete of the year, it says Favourite, which means that the athlete with the most popularity wins, thus, if the leader has a thousand friends, he deserves to win because he is well known and popular, which contribute to him being a favourite.

so stop complaining about the number of friends people have and what they have not achieved.Its about popularity and favouritism. If it was a competition of achievements, why the hell would we be allowed to vote, if its a competition of achievements, red sports would have researched their achievements and granted the winner.

I think it’ll be easier if athlete could write out their personal achievement in the year, so its easier for voters to vote the best athlete. Thus making it fairer, and the winner would be rewarded of what he is really good at

Dear Red fan –

I am merely comparing the other rugby canidates listed on the list, and particularly someone who has not been recognized before at any level.

Daryl Chia (another rugby canidate) has been on a championship winning team at Secondary school level and is recognized as one of the best centres of his age group – so why is his votes lower than Feng hua?

Having seen Feng Hua in action, I dont think he does merit the hoour in 2009, but after all, its a online forum, and no judges are present to note each person’s achievement.
