Nanjing to host 2nd Youth Olympic Games
Vancouver, Canada, Thursday, February 11, 2010 – Nanjing, China has won the bid to host the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014.
The announcement was made by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge during the IOC’s 122nd session.
Nanjing won by a narrow 47-42 margin against Poznan of Poland. There were only two countries in the running for the event.
According to the xinhua news agency, the Nanjing residents are highly supportive of the bid.
A Nanjing Opinion Poll Center survey showed that 93.38% of Nanjing residents are willing to volunteer. A high number of willing volunteers are below the age of 35, according to the same survey.
