Presbyterian High School, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 - Cedar Girls’ Secondary held off Bukit Panjang Government High to win 2-0 (25-21, 25-22) in a Group D match at the National B Division Girls Volleyball Championship.
Jiayu (Bukit Panjang #3) opened the game with a good serve, forcing a touch out. Bukit Panjang then went another point up when Lenis’s (Cedar #13) spike down the line went out of bounds. However, Lenis (Cedar #13) took back the game when she deflected her spike off the Bukit Panjang blocker into an empty spot.
Cedar than continued raking up points for an early lead. Despite the minor setback, Bukit Panjang fought hard and tied the game at 16-16, erasing Cedar's advantage.
The Cedar #6 sought to keep her team in the lead, and took the next point with a well placed spike. With one final push, Cedar surged ahead to lead 22-17 after a mis-communication in the Bukit Panjang camp. Despite a short comeback attempt, Cedar held off Bukit Panjang and reached set point.
With the score at 24-20, Jiayu (Bukit Panjang #3) kept her team's hopes alive with a good block of Joan’s (Cedar #10) spike. However, Woon Sin (Bukit Panjang #2) served the ball out to gift the set to Cedar.
Cedar started off the second set with an early lead. Bukit Panjang, on the other hand, were trying all means to take the set. With the score eventually tied at 15-15, Bukit Panjang managed to turn the tables on Cedar when Cedar's setter Maureen (#7) knocked the ball into the block.
A time out by Cedar was able to stop Bukit Panjang's advances, and Cedar quickly retook the game to lead 22-19, prompting Bukit Panjang to call a time out of their own.
Bukit Panjang took the next point with a good drop ball, and was soon one point away from Cedar after a Cedar player spiked the ball out of bounds.
However, Zhiyee (Bukit Panjang #10) served the ball out of bounds for Cedar to take control again. Maureen (Cedar #7) unfortunately served the ball out of bounds as well, but Jiayu (Bukit Panjang #3) returned the favour when her serve found the net.
With the score at 24-22, Joan (Cedar #10) fired off a good serve which deflected off a Bukit Panjang player to win Cedar the game.
Cedar and Bukit Panjang are drawn in Group D together with Woodlands Ring Secondary and Dunman Secondary. Dunman also have one win after they beat Woodlands Ring Secondary 2-0 in another Group D match.
