KL Hockey Club scored a double at the Singapore Cricket Club International Hockey 6s at the Padang today, winning both the Men's and Ladies Cup competitions. In the Men's competition, KL Hockey Club beat Perth invitation side Clubhouse Casuals and in the Ladies competition, the Club outplayed Seetha Devi Sports Club from Kandy to lift the Cup.

KL Hockey Club men’s team played entertaining hockey throughout the tournament and overcame the tough opposition of Hotspurs 2-1 in a tightly fought Cup semi-final.

The final against a stubborn and hard-fighting Clubhouse Casuals saw Ismail Abu slot home two impressive individual goals which helped his team to run out 4-1 winners.

Clubhouse Casuals went behind early in the game and although they replied through the impressive Ed Welch, the Malaysians prevailed to be crowned champions.

KL Hockey Club ladies were up against a team with Sri Lankan international Chathurika Wijesooriya, who had scored eight goals on the road to the final. However, KL proved too strong and overcame the Kandy-based team 5-0, with a hat-trick from Kanagi A. as part of a match-winning display.

Earlier, the men's Bowl was won by local team Tannibellies and the Plate Competition by Gymkhana Club of Colombo. In the other ladies competitions, home team Singapore Cricket Club lifted the Plate and Hong Kong Cricket Club took home the Bowl.

Surjit Singh, Chairman of the Tournament said, “The final day of every competition is always exciting and today continued the high standard that we always look forward to. We are delighted at the quality of the hockey and the atmosphere it created on the Padang,” he said.
