Toa Payoh Swimming Complex, Saturday, August 21, 2010 — Singaporean diver Myra Lee endured back injuries to compete in the Women’s 10-metre Platform final, and finished 12th with a combined score of 273.95 points.

The 16-year-old Singapore Chinese Girls’ School student was whisked off hastily after the afternoon’s preliminary rounds to seek medical attention for her back injury.

Despite the injury, Myra still showed up for the evening’s final, which comprised of four dive sets.

She attempted dives with Degree of Difficulty (DD) limits of 2.3 and above. Myra accumulated 147.10 points in the final and adding the 126.85 points carried forward from the preliminary round, Myra finished last with a total score of 273.95.

Myra is a former gymnast and only starting training for the YOG diving competition last May. She deserves to be applauded for her dedication to diving and never-say-die attitude as she braved her back injuries to take part in the final.

Asian countries dominated the top three positions. China’s Liu Jiao finished first with a total score of 479.60. Pandelela Pamg from Malaysia claimed the silver with 454.35, while Sin Ji Hyang of the People’s Republic of Korea took home the bronze medal with 430.20 points. Annika Lenz from United States of America missed out on a podium finish by just 0.7 points.

Diving continues tomorrow with the Men’s 3m Springboard preliminaries at 1.30pm. It will feature world champion Tom Daley and Singaporean Timothy Lee, among 13 others.
