Singapore, Tuesday, September 28 2010 — Recognising the value that sports can bring to Singapore, Canon today made another significant investment to develop and promote sports in the country.

In partnership with the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), Canon has sponsored 700 document management devices (consisting of laser printers, scanners and fax machines) as well as 24 Canon EOS 7D Digital SLRs with telephoto lens and flash to National Sports Associations (NSA).

Amounting to more than S$1 million, the sponsorship agreement is in addition to the SNOC Official Partnership Programme (SOPP) agreement signed with SNOC last September to nurture and raise the profile of sporting talents in Singapore.

The SNOC sponsorship was announced in a ceremony graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Ng Ser Miang, Vice President, International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Vice President, Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC).

“Canon Singapore believes in the power of sports to bind the nation in the values of solidarity, friendship, and fair play. During the same time last year, Canon became the first company to participate in the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) Official Partnership Programme with the objective of inculcating a nationalistic and winning spirit among the athletes and Singaporeans alike. We are proud to support SNOC to create general interest for sports in the country and the major games which our team will participate in,” said Mr Satoshi Kimura, President & CEO of Canon Singapore.

“I am happy that we will be doing more for Singapore sports through this additional sponsorship of document and imaging devices to the National Sports Associations. With this sponsorship, Canon is confident that it will help SNOC and the National Sports Associations to promote the cause of their respective sports in Singapore and raise the profile of our athletes who participate in international events,” added Mr Kimura.

Document and Imaging Products for NSAs

The document management devices and cameras will facilitate the training and development efforts of the NSAs – two key areas of focus for SNOC. The document devices will help NSAs to speed up day-to-day administration duties, freeing up valuable time that will be spent on nurturing sports. Selected NSAs will also be equipped with EOS 7D Digital SLRs. Perfect for capturing sports action, the NSAs will be able to use them to capture their athletes in action and help them to perfect their skills.

“We would first like to thank Canon Singapore for their contribution to local sports during the past year. Since they became the first corporate entity to participate in SNOC’s Official Partnership Programme, they have been very proactive in providing SNOC with the support to nurture sporting talent and elevate the popularity of sports in Singapore. The additional sponsorship initiative announced today will be a tremendous boost to the National Sports Associations and I am confident that it will empower and motivate them to push the cause of their respective sports and bring glory to Singapore in international sporting events,” said Mr Ng Ser Miang, Vice President, IOC and Vice President, SNOC.
