Serangoon Junior College, Wednesday, March 31, 2011 — Serangoon Junior College (SRJC) played out a goalless draw with Millennia Institute on Day 3 of the National A Division Football Championship.
Serangoon Junior College are still undefeated after having beaten Temasek Junior College 3-0 in their first Group D game.
Millennia threatened with their speedy wingers, with their impressive left winger Justin Sandosham (#11) posing plenty of problems for the Serangoon Junior College defenders with his quick feet and tricky play.
But it was Serangoon Junior College who came closest to scoring early on, with Muhd Nawaz (#23) squandering a golden chance in front of goal, and moments later, Shadanand Prem Koumas (#5) forcing a good save out of the Millennia Institute keeper Fariz.
After the exciting start, the pace of the game slowed and the ball spent most of its time in the centre of field, where the midfielders tussled.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with both teams canceling each other out. Serangoon Junior College had a penalty shout when Gan Jing Hui (#3) fell in the area but the referee waved play on. At the other end, Mohd Fauzy (#10) rose above the Serangoon Junior College defence but could only manage to head over.
Mr Teng Tse Sheng, SRJC’s soccer master felt his team “should have done better to take their chances”, as goal difference was important to his side hopes of advancing to the next round.
In an earlier game, Raffles Institution thrashed Temasek Junior College 8-0. Vuong Gia Hieu scored a hat-trick while Captain Ong Zhi Hao helped himself to a brace in the one-sided game. The other scorers were Andrew Leow, Joshua Suwe and Jason Wang. The defeat was Temasek Junior College’s second in as many games.
Raffles Institution Captain Ong Zhi Hao said after the game that the result was “just the beginning and there was still plenty of work to be done if the team is to reach its target of a place in the finals.”
Raffles Institution will next play Serangoon Junior College on Thursday, April 7th, at 4.45pm at the SRJC field.
