Victoria Junior College, Monday, April 4, 2011 — Victoria Junior College (VJC) made it three wins out of three with a 9-0 victory over Tampines Junior College (TPJC). TPJC have lost all their three Group C games so far in the National A Division Football Championship.

In another Group C game played earlier in the day at VJC, Hwa Chong Institution beat NUS High 2-0.

Santosh Magar (VJC #11) grabbed four goals, Mohamad Shijudeen (VJC #14) got two, and Parvesh Dhillon (VJC #5), Shuvod Rai (VJC #6) and Shen Hao (VJC #7) each got their names on the scoresheet as well.

VJC got off to a bright start and took the game to TPJC. Spurred on by their fans, they duly broke the deadlock in the 3rd minute, with Santosh Magar (#11), running down the middle before cutting two defenders with a deft turn and blasting a shot from outside the penalty box which whistled into the net.

The home side did not look sit back and defend, and continued attacking, with Mohamad Shijudeen (#14) getting the second. The ball was played into the penalty area and he trapped it, turned and shot past the Tampines goalkeeper.

A passing move started by VJC right back Tan Zheng Yee (#19) then resulted in the third goal, when he played a ball to Hieng PK (#18) who unselfishly played a through ball to Santosh Magar (#11). Santosh made no mistake, gleefully shooting into the top left corner for his second goal of the game.

Shijudeen (#14) then got the fourth goal by poking a rebound into the net after some good play by captain DIlip Thapa (#10).

Soon after, Santosh (#11) stole the ball from a defender and shot low into the bottom left of the net for his side’s fifth goal and his hat-trick.

At half time, the score was 5-0 to VJC, who looked anything but done.

After the break, a corner by Dilip Thapa (#10) came back off the post and Parvesh Dhillon (#5) was quickest to the rebound to give his side a sixth goal.

A cross into the area then saw Santosh (#11) attempt an ambitious bicycle kick, which was blocked by the defense, but he got back onto his feet to chip a shot over the TPJC keeper, which came back off the crossbar, hit the keeper, and rolled into the net for VJC’s seventh goal and Santosh’s fourth goal of the game, capping off a mercurial performance by the Nepalese winger.

Unfortunately for TPJC, the hosts were relentless and continued attacking, much to the delight of the home fans, and it did not take long before Yeo Kheng Jing (#20) was fouled just outside the penalty box after dribbling past two TPJC players. Shuvod Rai (#6) then sent the free kick low into the bottom right corner.

To cap off a much improved performance for VJC after two rather lethargic wins in their opening two games, Shen Hao (#7) connected with a corner kick from the left side for another goal to the home side to make the final score 9-0.

VJ Coach Azrulnizam Shah said that he was pleased that his side “showed flexibility, with a good mix of goals from all types of plays and players”, and when asked about their next game against Anglo-Chinese Junior College, said that his team was “focused but not anxious, and may the better team win.”

VJC goalscorer Santosh Magar (#11) said that he went into the game hungry to play well and score, and played down his four goals, instead thanking his teammates for “their wonderful play, for without them I wouldn’t have been able to score.”

VJC will next play ACJC on Monday, April 11th while TPJC will play HCI on Thursday, April 7th.
