Kallang Netball Centre, Tuesday, April 12, 2011 — Victory was exceptionally sweet for Cedar Girls’ Secondary when they defeated Methodist Girls’ School 32-16 to book a spot in the National C Division Netball Championship semi-finals for the first time in their history.

On the last day of the second round, Methodist Girls’ School and Cedar Girls’ School found themselves vying to finish second in Group X to qualify for the semi-finals.

Cedar had a shaky start and only established a minimal 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. At half time, they increased their lead to 14-8 with some tactical changes in the defensive line-up while MGS found themselves struggling to maintain a foothold and convert their centre passes.

The Cedarian supporters had something to cheer for as the Cedar players kept their composure and pulled away from Methodist Girls’ in the second half to claim victory at 32-16.

Cedar will now face defending champions CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) in the semi-finals. They had met in the South Zone semi-finals earlier this year.

Cedar coach Chng Li Li noted: “The CHIJ girls are very experienced as many of them played in the team last year. Cedar will have to focus on their own attack and minimize their mistakes as CHIJ will not fail to capitalize on them.”

The semi-finals will be held on Friday, 15th April, from 12.15pm onwards, at CHIJ Toa Payoh. In the other semi-final, Raffles’ Girls School will meet Dunman Secondary.
