Victoria Junior College, Friday, April 15, 2011 — Victoria Junior College (VJC) capped off a dominating performance over Innova Junior College (IJC) with a well-deserved 3-0 victory. Playmaker Chris Yip-Au (#10) scored twice either side of half time and striker Samantha Tan (#4) also grabbed a goal.

VJC were without their captain Priscilla Tan (#18) who was out sick, but Tan Min Yee (#19) stepped up well to captain the team to victory. From kick-off, VJC dominated possession but struggled to break down a disciplined IJC defense despite spending most of the first 40 minutes in their opponent’s half.

Some good play from the VJ midfield led to the first goal. Chris Yip-Au (#10) scored on a one-on-one with the IJC keeper, after Samantha Tan (#4) selflessly played a through ball into her path.

With this added confidence, VJC continued pressing and Samantha Tan (#4) grabbed the second, poking the ball in after a goalmouth scramble. At half time, the score was 2-0.

After the break, VJC continued to camp in their opponent’s half, and, though they were playing some nice football, found the IJC defense hard to break through. VJC dominated the game play but were getting increasingly frustrated as they were unable to improve their goal tally.

They finally got their third goal through a moment of individual brilliance by Chris (#10). After nicking the ball from an IJC defender, she glided past two defenders, and spotting the IJC keeper off her line, unleashed an unstoppable shot from far outside the penalty box which sailed into the top right hand corner of the net, giving the IJC keeper no chance to do anything.

VJC continued to attack relentlessly after the third goal and looked anything but done, but a combination of luck and solid defending from IJC saw the game end at 3-0.

VJC have currently scored 24 goals and conceded none after three games to average eight goals a game. They look to continue their dream run against Hwa Chong Institution on Wednesday, April 20th, while IJC look to bounce back from defeat against NUS High on the same day. Both games will be played at VJC.
