Jakarta, Saturday, November 19, 2011 — Singapore sailors contributed four gold, one silver and three bronze to the nation’s medal tally at the South-east Asian (SEA) Games. They won eight medals in the nine competed events to finish as the second best SEA Games country behind Thailand (4 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze).

Their haul of medals made them the third best sport for Singapore after swimming (17-9-13) and table tennis (5-4-0).

Russell Kan and Terence Koh won the 470 gold with a six-point total as they never finished outside the top two in their six races. They had four first-place finishes to win the gold ahead of the Filipino (silver; 12 points) and Malaysian (bronze; 17) pairs.

Dawn Liu and Sara Tan also dominated the women’s 470, winning the gold with two races to go. They had five first-place and one second-place finish for a five-point total to beat out the Myanmarese (silver, 11 points) and Thail (bronze; 14) pairs.

Yukie Yokoyama also won the optimist gold with two races to go. She had nine first-place and one third-place finish for a nine-point total to beat her Thail (silver, 20 points) and Malaysian (bronze; 26) opponents.

Victoria Chan, despite suffering a disqualification in her first race, also went on to win gold for Singapore in the laser radial class. She had five first-place and four second-place finishes for a 13-point total to beat her Thai (silver; 18) and Malaysian (bronze; 23) opponents.
