Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 — Deyi Secondary bagged a 43-39 win as time ran out for Seng Kang Secondary to make a come back in the North Zone B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

Deyi started the game strong by taking the lead early. Deyi looked to be the more dominant team during the whole game as they kept on pouring baskets in non-stop during the game. Deyi constantly extended their lead after every quarter, with a two-point lead in the first quarter becoming a seven-point lead at the end of the third.

Seng Kang knew they had to pull something amazing to get the win and keep their hopes alive of getting into the semi-finals. Seng Kang, Woodgrove and Nan Chiau were all fighting for that last semi-final spot.

Seng Kang started the last quarter by pulling out all the stops to reduce the deficit. The Deyi defence started to crumble late into the quarter as Seng Kang built momentum and came to within two points of Deyi.

Deyi quickly called a timeout to try regroup themselves. Although Seng Kang eventually outscored Deyi in the final quarter, it was not enough to beat Deyi. The win gave Deyi a spot in the semi-finals.

Woodgrove vs Nan Chiau
Woodgrove Secondary upset Nan Chiau High 33-22 to secure for themselves a semi-final spot.

Nan Chiau, with five points, had entered the game leading Woodgrove by just one point in Group A. Woodgrove were winless in three previous games.

With a semi-final spot at stake, both teams were ready to fight to the end. The first quarter started with Woodgrove dominating as they held Nan Chiau to just one basket.

Woodgrove slowly but surely extended their lead by over the second and third quarters but Nan Chiau were never far behind.

In the last quarter Nan Chiau looked to make a come back as they played a full court press which was quite effective on Woodgrove, but they did not capitalise on the chances they got and missed many of the open shots.

Woodgrove eventually pulled away to post their first win.
