Jurong East Sports Complex, Monday, February 27, 2012 — Nanyang Girls’ High beat Clementi Town 33-29 while Nan Hua High saw off Bukit Panjang Government High 46-35 in their respective semi-finals of the West Zone B Division Netball Championship.

In the game between Nan Hua and Bukit Panjang, both teams were evenly matched at the start but as the game wore on, it was clear that Nan Hua had better composure and game play as they took the lead by using their turnovers wisely.

The lead became increasingly comfortable for Nan Hua but Bukit Panjang managed a short comeback in the third quarter to tie the game but it was short lived. One passing mistake by Bukit Panjang and Nan Hua took back the lead again.

In the final quarter, Bukit Panjang made a change in the goal keeper in an attempt to neutralize Nan Hua’s shooter but to no avail as Nan Hua were able to capitalize on their shooter’s height and got in numerous lobs from from the goal defense to secured the win 46-35.

In the other semi-final, Nanyang Girls’ upset Clementi Town in a close 33-29 win.

Clementi Town had been a clear favorite this season as many of their players returned to B Division from last year and they have the most number of tall players on court. Their tallest player stands at 1.86m and a few others are above 1.7m.

However, height alone was not enough to suppress the skill and drive of the Nanyang Girls’ and the accurate shooting from the goal shooter.
