Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 — Catholic High earned a spot in the second round after beating Victoria School 2-0 (25-16, 25-21) in a Group A match at the National B Division Volleyball Championship.

Catholic High had seen their chances at qualifying for the next round diminish after a 2-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-22) loss to Yishun Town in the early stages of the competition. However, Yishun Town subsequently suffered a shock loss to Victoria School to level the playing field. Catholic High’s 2-0 victory gave them three much needed points to finish in second spot with four points.

Victoria had started the match with a 3-1 lead, but Catholic High subsequently overtook them to lead 7-4. Victoria were unable to overcome the score deficit and had to watch Catholic High romp ahead to take the set 25-16.

Victoria took the lead in the second set once again with Catholic High playing catchup. Catholic High managed to level the score 10-10, but Victoria managed to keep the score close. Both teams were tied at several points before Catholic High broke the stalemate to lead 19-17.

A timeout by Victoria allowed the team to subsequently come back to 19-18, but Catholic High pulled a fast one over Victoria and led 24-19 after a hit error by Victoria.

Victoria held off Catholic in the next rally as they successfully blocked a spike by Pei Jie (Catholic High #1). However, they could not make a comeback as they sent their spike out of bounds in the next rally to give Catholic High the win.
