Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Thursday, March 29, 2012 – Singapore Sports School’s Nur Izlyn Bte Zaini broke the C Division Girls’ 100 metres championship record when she clocked a time of 12.74 seconds in the heats at the 53rd National Schools Track and Field Championships.

Nur Izlyn, 14, bettered schoolmate Shanti Veronica Pereira’s two-year-old record by a hundredth of a second. The hand-timed championship record is 12.6 sec set by Lim Joo Lee in 1993. Nur Izlyn also equaled the National Under-15 record held by former Singapore Sports School student Liang Wei, who set the mark five years ago at the Singapore Junior Athletic Championships.

Nur Izlyn, whose previous personal best was 12.98s set two weekends ago at the Singapore Junior meet, will also be competing in the 80m hurdles, where she holds the fastest time of 13.04s among her peers this year.

Shanti, whose best 100m time of 12.68s at the age of 14 is not reflected in the Singapore Athletic Association’s record books, ran a time of 12.62s in the B Division 100m heats to advance to the semi-finals as the second fastest overall. Schoolmate Eugenia Tan led the field with her 12.61s time, while hurdles specialist Jannah Wong, from CHIJ Katong Convent, was the only other runner to go under 13 seconds, with her personal best of 12.79s.
