PESEB, Thursday, June 28, 2012 – Mayflower Secondary enjoyed a convincing win over their opponents Yuying Secondary, beating them 62-39 in the first round of the South Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.

It was also Mayflower’s opening game of the season.

Marcus Ang (#6) of Mayflower finished with a game-high 17 points while Edmund Phuah (#15) had a team-high 14 for Yuying.

Mayflower, boosted by a strong offence and fast breaks, took the first half 40-17. Yuying tried to find a way back into the game in the second half, with both teams playing an even game. However, it was too little too late as Mayflower held on to emerge victors.

Despite their loss, Yuying captain Edmund Phuah was optimistic.

“The team played well. We had good teamwork and we still managed to keep our spirits up even though we were losing,” said Edmund.

Mayflower will next face Peirce Secondary on Friday, June 29th, while Yuying will try to amass their first win of the season when they meet their strongest opponent, Gan Eng Seng School, on Tuesday, July 3rd.
