Amara Hotel, Sunday, November 18, 2012 — Nike Singapore announced that they will continue to sponsor the Singapore national and youth teams until 2016.
A new kit home and away playing kit was also unveiled and the national team will be wearing it at the 2012 ASEAN Football Championship (AFF Suzuki Cup).
“We are happy to be continuing our partnership with FAS and hope that this will inspire the players to achieve a breakthrough performance at the AFF Suzuki Cup and bring the title back to Singapore,” said Vijaya Kumar Jayaraj, the country marketing manageer for Nike Singapore.
Zainudin Nordin, the president of the Football Association of Singapore, welcomed the news.
“We are delighted that Nike Singapore has extended the partnership with FAS to kit the Singapore national teams,” said Mr Zainudin.
The Singapore home kit will be in the traditional red and white hue that is synonymous with the Lions and the city state.
The away kit is a throwback to historic jerseys of the past and in classic blue, which was the first colour choice for the jerseys in the 1970s and 1980s, reflecting Singapore’s identity as an island city.
An abstract Lions logo is emblazoned on the inside of the jersey to inspire and ignite a sense of national pride amongst the players.
“I’m very excited to finally make my debut at the AFF Suzuki Cup,” said Hariss Harun, 21, who missed the 2008 and 2010 editions because of injury. “I am raring to go and will definitely do my best to help Singapore progress to the later stages, and hopefully go on and win it for a fourth time.”
