Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, February 20, 2013 – North Vista Secondary dominated Riverside Secondary 42-9 in Round 2 of the North Zone B Division Basketball Girls’ Championship.

It was their second win in the second round after they beat Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary earlier in the week.

Shirley Long (#13) of North Vista scored a game-high 15 points while teammate Monica Lim (#4) had 11.

North Vista scored the first points of the match only after seven minute as both teams struggled in their attempts to gain possession and take a shot.

The first quarter ended with North Vista leading 6-0.

North Vista returned from the break a different team as they picked up the speed of the play considerably, leaving Riverside trailing as they ended the second quarter 25-2 ahead.

Every Riverside turnover was quickly converted by North Vista as they wasted little time in bringing the ball back up the court.

Meanwhile, Riverside made no show of them giving up as their players continued trying to make shot after shot, while their coach, teachers and teammates encouraged them continuously on the sidelines.

In the third quarter, North Vista widened the deficit further, allowing them to end the quarter with a 33-point lead at 38-5.

Shirley Long (#13) of North Vista stood out in the third and fourth quarters, as she sank four out of five shots on average.

The North Vista captain, Cheng Xin Yi (#7), felt that the game was a good one but also had room for improvement.

“I am glad that the juniors tried to fight for every ball today while the seniors had more teamwork,” said Xin Yi.

“We will continue training hard towards our goal of becoming champs in the North Zone!” Xin Yi added.

Sim Jie Ying (#4), captain of Riverside, felt that against a strong team like North Vista, her team did well but will still continue improving on their weaknesses.

“The best moment of the game was when we scored our first basket and we heard the cheers. It really gave us motivation to fight on,” said Jie Ying.

“We will continue working on our passing and dribbling and hope to improve in the coming match,” Jie Ying added.

Both team captains predicted that Deyi Secondary will be their strongest competitor in the North Zone.
