Kallang Tennis Centre, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 — Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) beat Victoria Junior College (VJC) 4-1 to enter the final of the National A Division Girls’ Tennis Championship.

ACJC breezed through the preliminary rounds, beating both National Junior College and Catholic Junior College by 5–0 scorelines, and dispatching Temasek Junior College 4–1.

In the next round, ACJC also saw off the challenge of Nanyang Junior College and Tampines Junior College, both by 5–0 scorelines.

ACJC had a more difficult time against Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) before pulling through 3–2 winners to gain their semi-final berth.

However, both Yasira Yusoff and Tiah Nee Yen, captain and vice-captain of ACJC respectively, agreed that the semi-final against VJC was tougher.

“The atmosphere was much more competitive and there were a lot of supporters from both schools. Thus, we needed to learn cope with the pressure and still be able to do our best,” said Yasira.

With regard to their semi-final performance, Nee Yen commented: “All (players) played very well. Entering the final was what we all wanted. I am proud of all of them.”

This is the second consecutive year ACJC have made it into the final and in Nee Yen’s opinion, “with a stronger team this year, it (qualifying for the final) was expected.”

ACJC will play Raffles Institution in the final on Thursday, May 9, at the Kallang Tennis Centre. RI beat HCI 5–0 in the other semi-final.
