South Korea, Friday, September 26, 2014 — Amanda Lim recorded a seventh-placed finish in the women’s 50 metre freestyle final in 25.73 seconds. Her result made her the fastest Southeast Asian competitor, ahead of compatriot Nur Marina Chan, who finished in eighth place in 25.91 seconds.
Chan’s timing of 25.91 seconds is a new personal best, erasing 0.09 seconds off her previous personal best time.
South Korea, Thursday, September 25, 2014 — Joseph Schooling earned his third medal when he finished second with a timing of 23.70 seconds in the men’s 50 metre butterfly final. Schooling now has a gold, a silver and a bronze medal, recording podium finishes in each of his individual events.
Clement Lim finished eighth in the men’s 100 metre freestyle event, setting a new personal best timing of 50.61 seconds.
In the women’s 4 x 100 metre medley relay, the quartet of Tao Li, Samantha Yeo, Quah Ting Wen and Amanda Lim missed out on the bronze medal, clocking a timing of 4 minutes and 11.77 seconds to finish in fourth place.
South Korea, Wednesday, September 24, 2014 — Joseph Schooling topped the men’s 100 metre butterfly final in a Games record time of 51.76 seconds to give Singapore its first gold medal at the Asian Games. Schooling’s medal is also the first swimming gold in 32 years. Ang Peng Siong last won a gold medal in the 100 metre freestyle event in the 1982 New Delhi Games.
In the women’s 200 metre butterfly final, Quah Ting Wen finished sixth in 2 minutes and 14.26 seconds. Quah’s result was Southeast Asia’s fastest, putting her ahead of Thailand’s Kittiya Patarawadee and Pankaew Sutasinee, who finished in seventh and eighth places respectively.
South Korea, Tuesday, September 23, 2014 — Tao Li earned her second Asiad medal when she finished third in the women’s 100 metre butterfly final with a timing of 59.08 seconds. In the 2010 Asian Games, Tao won a silver in the same event. Tao was the only Southeast Asian swimmer to qualify for the final.
Danny Yeo finished sixth in the men’s 400 metre freestyle final with a timing of 3 minutes and 55.39 seconds. Yeo’s finish made him the highest ranked Southeast Asian swimmer ahead of Malaysian counterparts Kevin Yeap and Vernon Lee, who finished in seventh and eighth places respectively.
In the women’s 200 metre freestyle relay final, Quah Ting Wen, Amanda Lim, Lynette Lim and Rachel Tseng finished fifth in 8 minutes and 12.09 seconds. Their result was the fastest among fellow Southeast Asian competitors.
South Korea, Monday, September 22, 2014 — Tao Li bagged Singapore’s first silver medal at the Asian Games in the women’s 50 metre butterfly final with a timing of 26.28 seconds. Tao had previously won gold medals for this event in the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games.
In the men’s 200 metre individual medley final, Joseph Schooling missed out on a bronze medal when he finished fourth with a timing of 2 minutes and 0.11 seconds.
Teo Zhen Ren, Danny Yeo, Pang Sheng Jun and Clement Lim set a new national record in the men’s 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay final with a timing of 7 minutes and 25.46 seconds. The quartet finished 4.09 seconds shy of third-placed Korea.
In the process, Danny Yeo improved his personal best to 1 minute and 49.68 seconds, surpassing his timing set in the men’s 200 metre freestyle final just a day before.
South Korea, Sunday, September 21, 2014 — Joseph Schooling headlined the national swimming team’s performance with Singapore’s first medal, when he finished third in the men’s 200 metre butterfly final with a timing of 1 minute and 57.54 seconds.
In the men’s 200 metre freestyle final, Danny Yeo finished sixth with a timing of 1 minute and 49.90 seconds. Yeo’s timing is a new personal best, shaving 0.64 seconds off his previous personal best.
The quartet of Quah Ting Wen, Amanda Lim, Lynette Lim and Nur Marina Chan set a new best timing of 3 minutes and 47.62 seconds in the women’s 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay final, where they finished in fifth place.
Rachel Tseng clocked a new personal best timing of 4 minutes and 21.39 seconds in the women’s 400 metre freestyle event. Tseng’s timing was 0.21 seconds faster than her previous personal best. The 16-year-old finished 11th out of 19 swimmers and did not qualify for the final.
