Interest in Osim Triathlon sees first drop in 7 years

Wednesday, March 2, 2010 – After years of increasing participation numbers, the 2010 Osim Singapore International Triathlon will need a final sprint down the stretch to match the record of 3,600 who took part in 2009.

To date, only 2,300 have signed up for the various categories. As a result, the organisers, the Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS), have dropped the “Late Period” category of fees and have extended the “Normal Period” fees to March 29th. The original closing date for registrations was March 2nd, 2010.

Seng Kang Primary, February 19, 2010 – The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and Nestlé Singapore signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) today for a year-long agreement to champion youth sports development and learning through play.

Said sports minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan: “Well, I was very happy to be here for this MOU signing, the relationship with Nestle Milo and Singapore Sports has been a very long-term relationship over 5-6 decades. I think almost every child in school taking part in sports will remember the cold Milo drinks.

Chinese sports brand Li-Ning pumps in $8.8 million into Singapore badminton

Singapore, February 1, 2010 – Chinese sports brand Li-Ning will be sponsoring the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) to the tune of S$8.8 million. The sponsorship is a combination of cash and value-in-kind over a four-year period from 2010 to 2013.

“Our strategic direction from 2009 and subsequent next five years, will involve overseas market development, together with our aim to become the sporting brand synonymous with Badminton,” said Ms Vivien Lim, the general manager of Li-Ning Sports Singapore Pte Ltd.

SAA to look for agencies to market commercial rights for Singapore Marathon

Road running in Singapore needs something new. It’s a new decade and a new world. Having grown from 2,000 runners in Year 2000 to 50,000 in Year 2009, the Singapore Athletic Association (SAA) is inviting sports marketing experts to collaborate and bring Singapore road running to a new height. More new quality events, more integration of events, more new runners.

At stake are the commercial rights of Singapore Marathon, the Singapore Cross Country, the Singapore Road Relay and new events which can be created to raise the quality of the running scene. The estimated value of National running events is about $5m in 2009 and should be expected to double by 2020.

Friday, December 4, 2009 – Singapore Airlines is now the Official Airline for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore in August 2010.

The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and Singapore Airlines today announced that they have signed a sponsorship agreement, under which the Airline will provide air tickets, carriage of airfreight, as well as publicity of the Games through its proprietary media channels.

IOC awards Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games broadcast rights

Singapore, Friday, November 13, 2009 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced agreements with MediaCorp, SingTel and StarHub to become the official broadcasters within Singapore for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010.

Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), the host broadcast subsidiary wholly owned by the IOC, will be responsible for delivering to these three organisations, as well as to broadcasters around the world, a number of live broadcast feeds and a 24-hour Youth Olympic News Channel, which will incorporate two daily highlight programmes. The coverage will embrace all broadcast platforms, including free-to-air television, radio, cable television, mobile phone and online.
