St Hilda’s beat Yishun Town to capture U-16 Volleyball Championship

St Hilda’s Secondary overcame Yishun Town Secondary 3-0 in the final of the recently concluded VAS Under-16 Volleyball Championship.

In the third and fourth placing match, Punggol Secondary edged out Xinmin Secondary 2-1 in a close encounter that saw the third set ending 15-13 in Punggol’s favour.

Shuqun boys overcome Punggol in 3 sets in C Division volleyball

CCAB, Friday, March 6, 2009 – C Division volleyball boys West Zone champions and 2008 2nd runners-up Shuqun Secondary School overcame a mid-game meltdown to eke out a 25-20, 14-25, 25-20 victory over fellow Group B quarter-final qualifiers Punggol Secondary School today.

Woodgrove Secondary claim first win after defeating Punggol in Round 2 of B Division North Zone basketball

Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, February 20, 2009 – Woodgrove Secondary overcame Punggol Secondary 73-34 in the second round of boys’ B Division North Zone Basketball Championship.

Both sides came into the match after losing their first Round 2 games and needed a win to have any chance of proceeding further in the competition.

Punggol managed to capture the first ball of the match and Sheng Yang (PGL #12) made the first 3-pointer to take a lead. The tide was overturned and Woodgrove took over the lead with a 9-0 run. Great defensive work by Woodgrove forced Punggol to shoot from range.

Deyi Secondary notch fourth win with 4-0 victory over Punggol in B Division North Zone football

Deyi and National Football Association U-17 forward Muhd Arisman bagged a superb hat-trick as Deyi Secondary gunned down Punggol Secondary School 4-0 in their B Division North Zone Football Championship match.

Muhd Syafiq Jufri netted the other goal for Deyi and they are now second in Group A behind Singapore Sports School with three wins and one loss.

Roundup of 2009 B Division North Zone Basketball Championship

Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, February 16, 2009 – The first round of the B Division North Zone Basketball Championship came to an end yesterday and the Round 2 groups have thrown up intriguing matches to look out for.

In group G, all eyes are focused on Maris Stella High who ousted Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary in Round 1. Can they improve their defense to overcome Round 1 group winners Woodlands Ring Secondary and North Vista Secondary?

In group H, the main showdown will be the match between Chung Cheng High (Yishun) and Presbyterian High. It will be a confrontation of the best centres in the North Zone with Wu Qing De of Chung Cheng going up against Russel Low of Presbyterian High.

Chung Cheng High (Yishun) overcome Punggol Secondary in B Division North Zone basketball

Singapore Basketball Centre, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 – Chung Cheng High (Yishun) survived a mini revival from Punggol Secondary late in the last quarter to overcome their opponents 48-30 in a boys’ B Division North Zone Basketball Championship group match.

That victory, their fifth in a row, gave Chung Cheng High (Yishun) the top position in Group D.

Qing De (CCHY, #13) was the key performer for Chung Cheng as he contributed 22 points. He dominated the board with numerous big rebounds as well as blocking shots to keep Punggol at bay. He drained his first 10 points in the first quarter and was influential throughout the match.

Punggol Secondary see off Zhonghua Secondary in Round 2 of U-16 volleyball

Hougang Sports Hall, Sunday, November 9, 2008 – Punggol Secondary (PSS) easily overcame an unprepared Zhonghua Secondary (ZHS) 2-0 (25-9, 25-11) in a Round 2, Group Y match at the 2008 National U-16 Boys Junior Volleyball Championship.

ZHS didn't have time to warm up as they arrived late, minutes away from a walk-over. The result was an unsettled ZHS side who found it hard to get into their rhythm during the initial stages. PSS, in contrast, was raring to go and easily took advantage of the mistakes committed by ZHS to take the first set 25-9. Although ZHS were able to put up a resistance in the second set, it was too little too late.

Shuqun beat Punggol 2-0 to march toward volleyball championship final

CCAB, Thursday, March 20, 2008 – West Zone champions Shuqun Secondary are now one step closer to the final after a 2-0 win over Punggol Secondary. They started off slowly, letting Punggol gain several points in the first set but quickly caught up and took home the first set.

The second set started with Shuqun much in control. However, Punggol put up an even stronger fight in a bid to diminish Shuqun’s lead. Shuqun setter Muhd Anwar (#2) made many spectacular drop shots which earned his team many valuable points and his team eventually prevailed to win the second set.

Final score: 2-0 (25-13, 25-21)
