On the subject of sporting talent
Schools that have no foreign talent in their midst need not despair. ‘Talent’ can be found amongst our local lads and gals too, in all schools. Our dedicated school coaches have , with their sharp ears and even sharper eyes, discovered many, in years gone by,…..and moulded and groomed many of them, to be eventual champions.
An excellent example is the performance of the Singapore Sailing team at the recent Doha ASIAN GAMES. They outshone all their very strong rivals ( China, S Korea, Japan, etc…) to emerge as the top Sailing nation in Asia.
And who are our sailors? All our very own local lads and gals! No foreigners! Quite a
few are still in school.
So, local talent , groomed by our local coaches, but exquisitely honed and polished by
some of the best foreign coaches available.
Hope you can see the difference between this and”importing” foreign players.
Coach Dick Yip
Thank you, Abdullah for telling us what you think. The important point to note here is that Singapore must continue to attract not just foreigners but “talent”. More talented people whether in sports, commerce or industry, are needed ,if we as a nation, want to see Singapore scale heights never achieved before.
Coach Dick Yip
montfort is indeed a good school but many tend to complain about the foreigners in their school and they claims that without this foreigners montfort secondary is nothing i strongly disagree with this. why?
because without this players locals will not know the strength of players from other countries like indonesia. its good to have foreign talents in local schools, like montfort cause they help to raise local standard. last but not least, montfort secondary produced many national players like derek wong and johnathan tang, theres even more during the past. montfort is indeed a great school no doubt.
