MGS put up a good fight especially in the first two quarters but eventually lost 14-21 to Sports School yesterday afternoon at the Kallang Netball Centre.

Both teams were tied 5-5 after the first quarter and at the end of the second quarter, the score was 10-8 in Sports School’s favour. Said Lee Min Li, the General Manager of the Netball Academy at Sports School: "Noraida, our coach, made substitutes to counter the very good MGS defense. Only then did our team pull away in the third quarter."

I caught up with the captain of the Sports School team, Seah Yun Zhen, to ask her opinion of the game. "We weren’t playing at our best. We weren’t used to the wet ground because of the rain for awhile. We pulled away in the third quarter when we focused on our own play."

Sports School have now won three games in a row.

"Our toughest game was against Raffles Girls which we won 33-24 last week. Last year we only beat them by one point. All of them are lanky and have fast movement."

The MGS girls, however, seemed rather thrilled with their performance.  The West Zone runners-up had not played Singapore Sports School before, but had already heard much about the team.  Admitted WA Li Kim and center Merrilyn, "Yeah, perhaps at the back of our minds, we might have felt a little fearful.  But in the end, we gave ourselves a pep talk and we just decided to come here and play our game."

Looking all flushed and excited, yet modest at the same time, Li Kim continued, "I suppose we played exceptionally well today.  In fact, we didn’t expect the scores to be so close."

Editor: If you recognise yourself or your team mate, please let us know the name. We’ll update the captions. More action shots in the Picture Gallery. Enjoy.
