If you were at the game and would like to share your comments, please feel free to do so. The good, the bad, the ugly, the refereeing…oops.
It’s pretty funny to watch asians doing the haka, I didn’t know Maori culture had such a profound influence here… 🙂
Coach Dick Yip::
Hi ACSians, Saints and other die-hard rugby fans. I have been following every word you have all posted here. With the past rivalry that you both have over the years, it is not surprising that so much has transcended to the present day even to the extent that many of the comments here are accompanied by raw emotions, unbridled passion, sarcasm, insults and counter -insults. and dangerous inacurracies. ( Yes, Dangerous….because the contents of this site is easily accessible to all users on the internet worldwide which includes the originator of the “HAKA”, the Maori people of New Zealand, and all rugby-loving fans worldwide!)
So, lest we forget and embarass Singapore and ourselves through the lack of understanding of the “HAKA”,may I suggest that no one should criticise the ” HAKA” per se, as it has been and still is regarded as sacrosant by the Maori people everywhere as part of their proud indigeneous culture.
Referring to the original composer Te Rauparaha,Chief of the Ngati-Toa tribe whose other titles include”the Great Maori Warrior” and “the Napolean of the South”as….a criminal…is totally unacceptable.
Calling the “haka” nothing but ….curses…is even more inaccurate and also totally unacceptable.
The term”haka” is a generic word to mean a number of things not exclusive to the “haka” performed by the All Blacks. That version is the “Ka Mate” haka originating from the Great Chief whose memory and stature is held in high regard by NZ’s Maori people.
When I have more time, I will post a more elaborate comment.
In the meantime please check out 2 authoritative websites both based in NZ for the origins and real meaning of ” Ka Mate” haka.

Well, I must agree with what ACSI guy said. There will always be black sheep among the good ones. I do have AC friends who are nice and all, some are simply snobbish and stuff.
All in all, both AC and SA are missionary schools, set up in honour of God since 1886 and 1862 respectively. Shouldnt we ‘love one another’? Let’s make peace and may the best team win for the upcoming A and C Div!
Saints, bring on the fighting spirit!
The All Blacks Haka is actually throwing curses. ACSi, stop doing it. How can a Christian School throw curses?
well from what i know, a new zealand coach/player was the one that invited us to do the all blacks haka we always do after finals..and it’s not that we just started it..we’ve been doing in since quite long ago..why isit when we used to do it and it came out in the papers every year since 1997, you guys saints never complained abt it? why only now?
and who says that the boys who dont do well we ask them to take private Os? haha all these are nonsense..really saints..now YOU get your facts right ya..our acs boys always play and study hard! if not we wont be in the top 10 ranking for schools for the past few years =)
see ya!
Quite rightly said Up and On!..
anyway please accept my apologies if what i said caused grief to any ACSians…
words are all airy fairy when pride and passion is involved..
ta!
Hey juz happened to see this site and wow, you guys know wat is stereotyping, that was a real good example there saying all ACSians are arrogant and stuff…. Grow up man every school has its bad and good students, cant say St Andrew is perfect either.
Yes there are ACSians who are proud and cocky but dont forget those who are humble. There are ACSians who are in jail and commiting crimes, but there are those serving the community to the best of their abilities. There are ACSians who juz dont give a damn about others, but there are those who do give a damn, the list juz goes on… Likewise im sure its the same for St Andrews or in fact any other school, there are the good and there are the bad.
Im not saying my school is perfect but the bottomline here is that no one is perfect, in this case no school is perfect, so its not right to juz make a sweeping statement like “you ppl are arrogant and proud”, it juz shows ignorance.
Juz consider this point man, dun make statements like tt, think before you make a statement and yo man remember “no one is perfect”
P.S : The way you slammed other ppl was arrogance.
yea, A and C finals baby!
and yes.. this is my last post. until the A and C finals ! see u there baby !
thats is the point actually…
dont brag abt a win and bring up stuff like the ref, sec 5, a b divisions crap, and poaching students and all.. and then say we are smart, and parents like acs gibberish…and i think someone said SA haka is a joke??.. *somewhere up there someone said something abt it..*
the fact is u guys won, but that doesnt define greatness…
and yeh.. u can be nasty if u wanna be.. its not like anyone is gonna get hit or what… just words mate…dont lose sleep over it… 🙂
passion is not spelt intellect… but FIRE in the gut!
Well, let’s all be gentlemen, be in the spirit of sportsmanship. It is a game, fair or unfair, it is over. Frankly, I do feel sore about the things said about SA, very much angered by the way AC people put it. There may be biased views, but let’s celebrate that at the very least, we all, admittedly, do love our school. If not, the exchanges of words would not have been triggered off here.
Thanks, KopManiak for the last entries posted here. I quote, “SA war cry goes along their school song, their vision and motto…even though it could be pansy, at least it goes along the belief of the school.” I appreciate your impartial views and accurate information.
To all the S.A.I.N.T.S., Up and On!
ACSians, the best is yet to be.
Just for info sake (Les please dont edit this as the thruth MUST be spoken as it is)
The origination of the Haka cry was by a criminal who was running away for his crimes. He was then surrounded by his captors and decided to come out and die fighting.
The actual words were a cry to the Maori God…as in like this is my life.. take it… i rather die.. something like the Japs did in WWII.
The NZ All Blacks took it as a brand image because of their maori heritage.
By fact, its a Maori war dance, and should be done by the tribes.
Think about this. This is their cry, to their God, religion, culture and heritage.
ACS is a Christian school, Jesus believing. Should we be saying such things?
Thats why I said, do you even know the meaning of the words? Dont just do something because it looks kool.
SA war cry goes along their school song, their vision and motto…even though it could be pansy, at least it goes along the belief of the school.
its not abt insulting a battle cry mate, even how silly it looks.. at least its original.. at least people dont say ‘they are copying this and that…’
people always remember events for the way it was…not the was it looked like.
yes blame the ref, the players, the moon and the stars.. if you lost, you lose.
three wins in a row isnt fluke…
and who cares if u are from a smart school or community school..everyone still works crazy hours…
ps where is that link for the acs war cry?
we dont insult ur battle cry or haka, no matter how *ahem it may look, so we will appreciate u leave us out no matter how u think the haka we do may look.
Both schools are to be admired for their long traditions in the sport. The sport has also served as a rallying point of identification for the students.
So let’s keep the postings on a higher plane as befits the tradition and spirit of both your schools’ values.
Hi guys…you can argue all you like as long as its about the game. Insulting each other beyond a certain point…well I just delete. That’s all. No need to drag your collective reputations through the mud right? If any neutral came in and read the insults, they would think ALL rugby players are mean spirited. Now, we wouldn’t want that, would we?
and for the record, only 1 player from the ‘B’ division team this year was from Saints. The rest are mostly pure ACS boys. like our captain, ACSian for 10 years.
saint1862, were you on the rugby field in last years final?! IF you were – which i highly doubt – you would understand why we say the refereeing was so off.
in the past 3 years, you guys lose the rugby. every year you all say the referee kayu and bias. can’t you ppl juz own up to the fact that you lost, even though we lost this year, we know and we admit we lost. Why are you ppl always so arrogant and so prideful? never ever wanna admit you lose? although i know i shld know say this, but i still muz say, ACSi is a MISSION SCHOOL, but look at the reputation you have set among the sec students in singapore, when u say “ACSi”, everyone say you ppl are arrogant and proud, this is general, u go to CHIJ, VS, SJI and etc, all the students think the same way and it has been the same for the past decade. don’t say people are jealous of you guys, people out there in the world got eyes to see!
so you have ACSi today coz St Andrew’s chose to serve the community! This is a fact and you can never change a fact!
