Raffles Junior College vs Anglo-Chinese Junior College
Wednesday, 9 May 2007 at Raffles Junior College
Story and pictures by Red Sports reader Mr Wee Ban Bee, an ACS old boy. Thanks, Mr Wee!
Raffles Junior College (RJC) beat Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) 7-3 in a hard fought game this afternoon to set up a semi-final clash with St Andrew’s Junior College. ACJC will now have to meet ACS(Ind) in the other semi-final, a scenario both Anglo-Chinese schools did not want.

The match started almost an hour late at 5.25 pm due to rain and possible lightning.
RJC scored the first and only try about 3 minutes after kick off. According to observers, it should not have been given as it was a forward pass that missed the referee’s attention. A clearance by ACJC was blocked by RJ and with the bouncing ball, RJ was able to go ahead and get a try even though it was supposedly a forward pass. RJC’s conversion was successful to make the score 7 – 0 to RJC.

After that most of the game was played in RJ’s half. A penalty was given to ACJC and Mandeep Singh managed to convert to give AC their 3 points.

During the second half, RJ were awarded a penalty right in front of the goal post about 30m out. The kick went way left and missed the posts altogether.

ACJC pressed on with their attack and managed what appeared to be a try right under the goal posts but this was not seen by the referee as the boys were piled up over each other. Refereeing was fair to both sides. ACJC will thus meet ACS(I) at Old PA next Wednesday 16 May at 3.15pm with RJC meeting SAJC at 4.30pm.

Editor’s comment: Sounds like there were some controversial calls, huh? If you were there too, please feel free to share your comments about the game. If you recongise yourself or your team mates in the pictures, let us know names and we’ll update the captions. Thanks.
yay!!!n(drum roll)..tmrs d game.. 😉
Eh, Wah Lau, thanks man.
And yes, I must reiterate that we should all be grateful to uncle Ban Bee for being patient with us younger ones.
If uncle Ban Bee didn’t send any pictures, all of you will have nothing to see.
Agreed check.
Enough bickering, many matches (as with other sports) in the world have been tainted by refereeing decisions, controversy and other stuff but the main thing is….people move on. Even with TV match officials, it’s not even fool proof.
Yes there’s always criticisms in officiating but again every sport have their moments. As for AC, what makes a team is how they can come out of this kind of situation and become even better players. Everyone’s got screwed before one way or another, heck i even lost my game due to a coin toss (playing for the blue and gold nonetheless). Yes it isn’t fair but that’s sport for you. RJC may have counted themselves lucky when they got out of jail against AC but they got the result they wanted and that’s all that matters. We can argue about it for next 10-20 years but the result still stays and you can’t take it away from them.
We can only look on the sidelines to watch and cheer your team but we cannot decide their fate as our time has passed (for most of us). It’s no use whinging and bickering about it. Let the boys play their hearts out in the next 60 minutes. Good luck to all the teams playing in the semis.
Kudos to Uncle Ban Bee for the report and Les for making us remember the game made in heaven is still very much alive in this little red dot.
See you boys on Weds.
Cheers.
come on people, it’s about time to let this arguement rest, from both sides that is.
results speak for themselves. if ACJC are as good as many claim they are, they will win the title. the same goes to RJC.
so let’s all be sensible, and let the results do the talking.
cheers.
to Neutral- dsa means direct school admission
LOL yea and tt ‘Me’ above is not me.only one me here. XD.
wells no more HCJC ah?ookies…ouh oni semis is at d old PA.yea d home team acad.been tere.so far inside.blblblb.
ahmad
hahah ! some lame person used my name and made me sound like i support ac ! (see below)
neutral. Says: May 13th, 2007 at 3:14 am ….
i think ac pple must be really desperate now.. either them or rj..! 🙂
Neutral, time to change ur nick to rj rugby…
rj ruggers. to say that you guys have won it fair and square is like consoling yourselves? cause you guys know that actually, AC WON. its not like you guys arent good. but dont think that you guys are all THAT good. cause many know that, AC is actually better.
I was at the RJ defece sideline and two tries went obviously and i would say rather deliberately unseen by the ref. Shockingly enough, other foul tackles were blatantly ignored.
The final score should have been a minimum of 10-7, AC up. Unbelievable. To answer the question by “You” – ‘if the ref were biased, why would he want SA facing stronger opposition. if the ref were biased, he would have let ACJ win of course’, AC is better. Way better. That’s why.
It’s HCI now…no more HCJC….
And there is now the Old PA at Thomson still hosting the semis.
The final will be at the “new” PA which is now called the Home Academy. That is in CCK.
hci?i tot hcjc.
and……old police acad?not new one ah tis yr?
does anyone know the score to the cjc vs pjc and srjc vs hci rugby match on wed? the same day as the rjc vs acjc game but the much less profiled ones
whats dsa-ed ?
i heard rj was missing a player that had DSA-ed into the school? former acs boy too right?
16th may 07. old police acad. its a date rj. no more talk here, lets just play and see what you really have. ac, dont defend yourself, you played well but lost, lets see you in the final if you got what it takes.
that bs…
if ac are good, they would have had more trying scoring opportunities. ac only had one clear opportunity…thats poor for a team thats supposedly good in rugby.
if the ref made a mistake, tough. but that doesnt mean that rj didnt play well.
a rugby fan (unbiased to either schools) would have been proud of the way rj defended…
ac fans just need to accept that you are not going to get a acjc acsi final…
tough. but better luck next time.. *or maybe trying poaching more players ! :=)
Kudos to ‘sp rugger’, a better & clean ref system is needed on order for this sport to continue to blossom. If anyone was down there watching the game, I must add that I strongly FEEL that the ACJC forwards dominated the game with the ball. Good possession and also quite a few turnovers. Good job guys.
rugby will grow as a sport in such a small little city/country only if we have better refs.. people like me lost interest in rugby all because i think singapore refs are missing too many errors.. and sometimes teams lose or win because of refs’ mistakes.. especially games like rj vs acjc.. everyone knows it will be a close match but a few small errors the ref make can cause the better team to lose or the lousier team to win.. its like u train so hard to play to the refs’ mistakes… thats nonsense.. i am not saying that refs cannot make mistakes.. everyone make mistakes but not until that extend.. u know how its feels to lose when u know u deserve to win but all because of the ref and u lose.. refs in sinagpore rugby is really bad.. TO THE CORE!!!
i’ll have two pls 🙂
