National ‘A’ Division Boys Semifinals

Another battle on the pitch is set to take place this Friday, 18 May as the National ‘A’ Boys Football championship – a highly anticipated affair amidst all the ongoing furore, as we can see – proceeds into the semifinal round.
Will defending champions Victoria Junior College shush their critics and edge out underdogs Raffles Junior College for another run for the trophy? And will Meridian Junior College find the will to edge out highly spirited St Andrew’s Junior College to set up a replay of last year’s final?
Here are the semifinal fixtures for your convenience.

The Final will take place on Thursday, 24 May at a pitch yet to be disclosed.
(Very unfortunately, contrary to what we’d all been anticipating, the National ‘A’ Division Football Final will not be held at the National Stadium for the very last time on 18 May as originally scheduled. Due to mostly bad weather conditions, the Football schedules and fixtures had gone through much amendment and postponement, and as a result, the originally scheduled date for the Final – 18 May – could not be met. What a pity!)
Editor’s note: Football boys, both on and off the pitch, please remember to be nice on Friday too, ok? I’ve been to a couple of matches, and hmm… I’ve seen things. Uncle Les has enough boys to discipline at home, and I don’t want to feel like I’m a premature Mom having to deal with 18-year-old boys who can’t use proper words on this web site to represent themselves. Have fun at the games, in the meantime. 🙂

soccer is a very controversial sport, as exchanges across the tagboard and the comments show. as an unbiased observer I’ll give expert advice here
VJC-RJC: RJC plays a prettier brand of football than VJC. this is what many critics say. in reality the dog-eat-dog world situation of A division means that anyone who so dares to play something that looks pretty/fragile will get whacked. most neutrals would root for the underdog, but I’d think that RJC’s relative lack of experience at the top will be costly. to be realistic, VJC,MJC and SAJC dominate yearly, and the lucky last one who dares tread into the lair of any of these 3 giants will gonna get it.
it is very hard to get a result unless VJC decides to self destruct(which is most unlikely), and their mental+physical strength will mean VJC will grind out a result. bet RJC to defend like mad,and try to wait to get to over time-which VJC won’t even bother allowing the Rafflesians that luxury of time,with their lethal set pieces and their sleeping giant that is the attack.
SAJC-MJC: whatever controversies doesn’t count now. so before I start, STOP dwelling on the points deductions,wrong calls,the what-went-wrongs,etc. This is more evenly matched, as well as highly unpredictable. SAJC has an attractive attack, so many would expect SA to spank the Meridians as they did last year. Their centrepiece is the attack, so MJ will have to make use of their counterattacks instead of ramming the Saints head on. if it doesn’t go overtime, SAJC or MJC will win by a late goal. at most 2-1
