I had the privilege to watch an inter-school primary softball match played at Catholic High School between Sembawang Primary and Catholic High Primary. The Senior Boys category meant that mostly primary 6 students were involved in the match.

Although the skill level of the boys were much lower than their secondary school counterparts, the match was very entertaining as the boys were full of pride and spirit playing for their schools. They never gave up cheering for each other though the result was beyond doubt as early as the second inning.

Catholic High primary started the better of the two teams, finishing the first inning 6-0 up. Alex, the pitcher of the Catholic High primary team managed to shutout the Sembawang Primary batters with some fine pitching.

The second inning was the decider of the game. The Catholic High batters blitzed the Sembawang primary team with numerous runs as they took full advantage of the Sembawang mistakes. The Catholic High team eventually triumphed 45-2.

Later, Edward Coules the teacher-in-charge of the Catholic High primary softball team said, "This is the first match for the team and they still have much to learn and improve from their mistakes." What a great attitude! Hopefully that should be emulated by every school sports team in Singapore so that everyone continually seeks to improve!
