National ‘C’ Division Softball Championship 2007 (Boys)
Catholic High School vs Anglican High School
Wednesday, 27 June 2007, at Catholic High School

With the end of the South Zone competition, the softball boys have been training hard during the holidays in preparation for the next stage – the National ‘C’ Division Championships. The extra efforts definitely showed as the boys outlasted Anglican High in the opening game.

Catholic High won the toss to bat first and they wasted no time in surging to a 10-0 lead. Catholic High pitcher Jerald (#73), warmed up to the game quickly and the first three batters from Anglican High were promptly dispatched via a tag out at first base and two standing strikeouts.

The second inning saw the boys managing only two runs as the weaker batters from the bottom deck took their positions. However, despite the valiant efforts of the Anglican High boys to keep themselves alive on the second and third bases, they were helpless as their subsequent batters were all outsmarted by Jerald.

Jerald, Zheng Peng (#3), Kayue (#29), Wee Kian (#37) all made scoring runs. Unfortunately, James (#23) was caught leaving his base early and Andrew (#20) was tagged out at the second base, along with Tijoe (4) on the next play. The onus was now on Anglican high to turn things around. The Catholic High boys however were not about to give up their lead and played well to hold their opponents scoreless.

As the fourth inning was about to start, Anglican High conceded defeat as their only pitcher, Lewis (25), was unable to continue due to the scorching weather. The game thus ended at 16 – 0 to Catholic High, who must now look to emulate today’s results against their next opponents on Friday afternoon.
