The basketball girls of NUS blasted the Singapore Management University (SMU) team out of the water with a 76-36 victory last week in the Singapore University Games (SUniG). NUS led only by five points (18-13) at the end of the first quarter but pulled away to a 15-point lead by the end of the first half (35-20). NUS, with four players hitting double-digit scores, pulled further away to lead by 27 points at the end of the third quarter (56-29) and eventually finished the game with a 40-point victory margin.
In the Men’s competition, NUS scored a crushing 81-47 victory over SMU. Leading 39-20 by the end of the first half, NUS stretched the lead further to 29 points (68-39) at the end of the third quarter. NUS eventually finished the game with a 34-point winning margin.
It was a game of three-pointers with #9 of NUS, who had a team-high 18 points, draining six three-pointers. Not to be outdone, Huan Hui (#7 of SMU) scored a game-high 28 points while dropping five three-pointers.
In the other Men’s game played that night, NTU showed new boys SIM University what university-level basketball was all about with a comprehensive 80-52 victory. NTU’s Chen Zhanghao (15 points), Yang Quanju (11 points) and Chan Tzu Xiong (12 points) had double-digit scores for the night with Zhanghao scoring two three-pointers.
Editor’s note: Can anyone provide name lists for NUS (Men’s), SIM Uni (Men’s) and SMU (Men’s)? I’m writing reports for the games played on Thursday, 20 September 07. If you have the name list, could you kindly email it or leave it in the comments section. Thanks. There will be pictures published for those games. Are there other sports involved in SUniG? If so, please let me know the schedules and feel free to contribute stories and pictures.
