ITE Simei, Saturday, January 19, 2008 – The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) captured the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Touch Rugby Championship with a convincing 6-3 win over Temasek Polytechnic (TP).

Having won an earlier match 3-0 in the group stages, NTU were out to prove their worth as they took the pitch in their black and lime green jerseys against the TP reds.

NTU led 1-0 five minutes into the game with the first touchdown by Kehui (#2). The two teams then exchanged touchdowns with NTU scoring their second touchdown with a magnificent dive through the TP defense line by Chan Wen Hui (#9) for a 2-1 lead.

In defence, NTU played hard defence and shut TP down to prevent more touchdowns. TP had no answer to NTU on the day and latter kept their noses in front to finish 6-3 winners. In a reflection of their many months of intensive training, NTU finished the championship unbeaten, restricting their opponents to no more than three touchdowns per game.

Said the NTU team: “This season was a fruitful and fulfilling one for the NTU team as we have achieved our goal. And this dream would not have been made possible without the constant support from our very own PSG (Parent Support Group) and fellow team-mates. The NTU Touch Team extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us throughout the two weeks of competition.”
