The race to host the Youth Olympic Games has come down to Singapore and Moscow. The competition is getting hotter, what with Moscow’s mayor and others weighing in on the subject. That’s why we were tickled to discover this satirical piece over at Talking Cock, giving us one more reason why Singapore should win the bid. – Editor

It's down to Singapore versus Moscow for the right to host the 2010 Youth Olympics, and Singapore is hoping our food will be the deciding factor.

"We hope that the International Olympic Committee will consider the gastronomic potential of the host city," said Mr. Wen Lao Sai, a spokesman for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

"After a hard day of sports and being a spectator, what kind of makan do you want - satay, prata, char kway teow, nasi lemak, hae mee, chili crab, sar poh fan?" He continued. "Or boiled liver jelly with mustard and a glass of cabbage juice, and a starter of beef kidneys in pickled cucumber soup?"

Mr. Wen also noted that Singaporean chefs have a long history of producing Russian food, in Hainanese western restaurants like Troika and Shashlik. "Our borscht is better than actual Russian borscht. You don't have to eat it with vodka to kill the taste."

Currently, Moscow has gotten a slightly higher ranking than Singapore in all other aspects.

"But we'd like to remind the IOC that in Singapore, the sushi isn't radioactive," coughed Mr. Wen discreetly, alluding to the assassination of Alexander Litvinenko in London.
