Middle Spiker
Daryl Lee, a middle spiker of Guangyang Secondary managed to maintain his lead over the rest to emerge with the highest number of votes at 114. Now in Secondary 4, he picked up volleyball when he was Primary 4 and has been in the Combined Schools volleyball team before. Daryl is also in Track & Field where his forte is the High Jump.
Qing Shan from Catholic High comes in second with 105 votes. A volunteer with Red Sports, his designation is REDeye102. A strong blocker, he is a regular face in the starting 6 of his team.
Open Spiker
Melvin Goh, one of the open spikers of Catholic High, got the highest number of votes for the position of Open Spiker. With 92 votes, he trumps his nearest contender by over 40 votes. Picking up volleyball at a young age under the influence of his older brother, he is also in the Combined Schools team. He came from the same primary school as Daryl Lee, where he helped his team win the Inter-Primary National Championships.
Lawrence Tan from Shuqun Secondary overtook Catholic High’s Koh Zuo Quan in the final weeks of the voting for a place in the RedSportsVII. With 51 votes, he triumphed by 10 votes. One of the strongest players in the B Division, he worked hand in hand with his teammates to finish second place in the 2007 U-16 Volleyball Championship.
Setter
Muhd Anwar from Shuqun Secondary has maintained his foothold as the voters’ favourite setter with 42 votes. Arguably one of the best setters in Singapore schools, he was the setter for the Combined Schools team last year. His lethal drop shots has won many points for his team during competitions.
Subset/Opposite Spiker
Justin Kweh, the subset from St. Hilda’s Secondary, earns a place in the RedSportsVII with 88 votes. With the most powerful jump serve in the B Division, he often leaves his opponents reeling. An all-rounded player, his spiking from the opposite side sometimes take his opponents by surprise. Not only that, his ability to receive the most powerful shots from his opponents make him a prime target for volleyball head hunters.
Libero
Sometimes the “forgotten” player in a team, Wong Wei Zhi has proved that he is a crucial member of his team’s defence. With 79 votes, he is the favourite Libero among the voters. Capable of receiving powerful spikes, he also gives encouragement to his teammates and is able to analyse his opponent’s points of attack.
