Toa Payoh Sports Hall, Friday, April 11, 2008 - Presbyterian High overcame Sembawang Secondary 3-1 to win the championship title in the National B Division Girls Volleyball Final.

Right after the St Hilda's boys win came the long awaited girls’ final. It was a showdown between two powerhouses, Presbyterian High and Sembawang . The two team of players lined up together by the sidelines while the commentator introduced each of them as they entered the court. It was such a prestigious event for them. As the spectators in the hall roared, the match got under way.

The first set was won by the girls from Presbyterian High with a score of 25-18. Sembawang had difficulty getting their rhythm while Presbyterian High had fewer unforced errors, allowing them to take home the first set, much to the delight of their supporters and bench.

Presbyterian High came storming into the second set, forcing defending champions Sembawang to put up a good show if they were to retain their title. However Sembawang’s unforced errors cost them dearly and they lost the second set 21-25.

Presbyterian High, leading the game with two sets to none, needed just one more set to reclaim their championship title which they lost back in 2005, while the Sembawang girls knew that they had to give everything they had to prevent Presbyterian High from winning three straight sets to wrestle the championship title from them.

Late into the third set, both teams battled closely, each making less errors and putting up better defenses. The score was tied at 19-19 and it was the small fakes from Lynette and huge powerful spikes from Michelle of Sembawang that helped them to clinch the vital third set.

The work was not over for Sembawang because they still had to win the next set to force the game into a rubber set. With immense pressure building on their mental toughness and physical strength, they gave Presbyterian High a game of their life. Presbyterian High displayed the hunger to destroy Sembawang to snatch the title back by winning the nail-biting fourth set 25-23.

It was a fantastic display of attacks and defensive work by both teams. After the match, I was impressed with both teams as they gathered together and walked to the sides of the hall to thank the spectators who cheered them on during the game. Good games, girls!
