Heads up if you are zesty, fun-loving and have an insatiable appetite for sports!
Red Sports are on an islandwide hunt for youths - yes you! - who are spilling over with enthusiasm and passion for sports to be part of Red Sports' inaugural internship program: REDaction! In fact, it got a mention by Channel NewsAsia a few days ago. 🙂 Whether you’re a budding sports writer, photographer, videographer, or have some other skill, we have a big place for you.
The inaugural internship intake will run from June to December 2008.
This 6-month sports media internship program is a FIRST in Singapore and is specially designed for youths in Singapore to provide them with a new media platform for exposure to the sports industry, to equip them to be confident contributors to sports media, and to encourage them to discover and develop their potential for a career in the sports industry.
Program Prerequisites:
– Minimum age of 15 years old
– Be enrolled in a Singapore school/institution (secondary/JC/poly/university)
– Be able and willing to commit once a week for 6 months (approx 6 hours a week)
– Familiar with school sports and local sports scene
– Computer literacy is a must!
– For writers only: Minimum B in English Language
The 3 core components of the Red Sports internship program are:
1. On-Site Sports Reportage
Interns will first attend an in-house workshop comprising an overview of the sports industry, an overview of new media, and training in sports writing and photography. Interns will pick an afternoon (Monday-Saturday) to commit to the internship program and will then be rostered and assigned to cover various sports events in Singapore, particularly the local school sports scene.
2. Project Management: Managing a sports website
Interns will first attend an in-house workshop on project management. Interns will break into teams and will be given a choice of website projects, such as setting up a sports e-zine for their school or sports team (e.g. http://ch.redsports.sg), for a particular event (e.g. YOG), or for a particular function (e.g. forums). The project is a stellar opportunity for interns to develop a full set of project management skills.
3. Portfolio, Mentoring and Career Counseling
Interns will be overseen by a Red Sports internship mentor for the duration of their internship. In addition to ongoing feedback and guidance on their contributions, the internship mentor will also meet up individually with the interns for feedback, evaluation and career counseling. All content published on Red Sports may also be used by the intern as part of their personal portfolio.
Outstanding interns who have demonstrated the requisite capability, maturity and initiative will be given the opportunity to be part of the Red Sports crew at international sports event in Singapore. They will also be invited to assist in various Red Sports feature assignments such as conducting exclusive interviews with prominent sports personalities.
Upon completion of the internship program, all interns will be accepted as members of REDaction Alumni. Members of the alumni may request Red Sports to act as a professional referee for their future endeavours. They will also have the opportunity to be part of the Red Sports crew at major sporting events in Singapore such as the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

hello. i’m interested in this internship program, but i know it’s kind of too late now. but i was wondering if u guys still accept interns.
Hi Fei, it does not mean that you have to be a sports player. If you are interested in sports to begin with, it helps. You can email us for further clarification.
Hi, I was wondering what it meant by “Familiar with school sports and local sports scenes”. Must one be a sports player or actively involved in the local sports scene to apply?
Feel free to contact me via email if you’d like to get involved, Stefanie 🙂
hahaa… I am also quite youth leh… if during my school days, i would be glad to take it on. But i am not the journalist type. Wanna take on photographer after my degree.
Was actually thinking that Singapore Disability Sports Council can get interns to be involved with us for this. Think it is very interesting and really innovative.
Hi, ct, saintsyadayada (what a long nickname, very hard to type),
Just send in your application form and we will see what we can do.
And yes, we will do this next year. We will do this every year until I run out of money or we make money. Whichever comes first.

just like Red Sports. It started out as a dream, but now it has turned into reality. 🙂
Just in case anyone is wondering, that van is just a figment of our imagination. But everything in life begins with a good imagination, yes? 😉
