RedSportsXI
POLLS CLOSED MIDNIGHT, FRIDAY, MAY 23.
Hi football fans and players,
The poll is over and before we get into the best 11 players, I must add that this poll is the most popular on Red Sports so far. As with all reader-generated polls, controversy abounds. Some have said the top 11 are not the best and are just a reflection of their popularity in school and mobilisation efforts by their friends. Well, so be it. No poll is perfect and if the best 11 were just picked by me and a couple of coaches, what’s the fun in that yeah? I’d rather let you guys do the picking.
So, here’s the RedSportsXI based on the votes:
Pierson Ang (#20, goalkeeper, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Adam Yuu Douglas (#26, defender, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Khairil (#23, defender, Meridian JC)
Gavin Lee (#13, defender, Victoria JC)
Fazli (#7, right-back, Meridian JC)
Mohamed Aswad (#10, midfielder, Millenia Institute)
Mahdi (#23, midfielder, Meridian JC)
Nathaniel (#12, centre midfielder, St Andrew’s JC)
Muhd Afrizal (#19, left winger, Jurong JC)
Alex (#10, striker, Victoria JC)
Chong Kuo Loon (#17, striker, St Andrew's JC)
So six schools have representatives on the RedSportsXI team. I think that’s a nice spread of schools and shows that no school has succeeded in spamming the poll in any great way. It also shows that there is talent spread out across the schools, players whose skills have impressed a wider selection of readers.
Out of curiosity, I decided I would list the next 11 players by vote. So here they are:
Alfred Yue (#1, GOALKEEPER, Jurong JC)
Lim Jun Liang (#5, defender, Victoria JC)
Matthew, (#3, defender, Meridian JC)
Warrick Wee (#7, right-back, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Luo Yu Kai (#18, centre-back, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Cedric Goh (#8, centre midfielder, Anglo-Chinese JC)
Nicholas Kang (#17, left winger, Victoria JC)
Jeremy Ong (#2, midfielder, St Andrew's JC)
Chester Lum (#16, midfielder, Victoria JC)
Anders Aplin (#9, striker, Victoria JC)
Daniel Kao (#14, striker, Anglo-Chinese JC)
If anyone can tell me what position Irwin Goh (#14, position?, St Andrew's JC) plays, he might warrant a position in the second RedSportsXI. I’ve left him out in the meantime because I don’t have that information.
So there you have it, the two best teams at A Division level according to the readers. Now, I don’t know about you, but I would pay good money to watch these two teams play. And if got to pick my players, I would add someone like Augustus Set (#7, midfielder) of St Andrew’s in my team cos that guy plays beautiful football. Augustus was a very late addition in the poll because he wasn’t nominated early by readers.
Although I only got to watch the semi-finals of the A Division, I was struck by the level of skill on display. It was a joy to watch. Also what was missing was all the nonsense you see from the English Premier League – diving, trying to get opponents sent off, arguing with the referee. Most players conducted themselves with decorum, dignity and manliness. My hats off to you.
So now, if you guys really want to watch RedSportsXI (A) vs RedSportsXI (B), and the players really want to play that game, hey, let me know. Maybe we can form a committee with 3 to 4 people and get this executed. I’m not doing this alone, that’s for sure!
Red Sports. Always Game.

lollipop.. which JJ BENCH player do u think have more votes than wad u think dey should have?
joel tan jun hao isnt from dunman, he’s not even in a division. awesome player but from republic poly 🙂
How come nobody sends stories on B Division and C Division tournaments?
This is a reader-generated site. If nobody sent it in, it’s probably nobody can be bothered.
And please, don’t put the JC folks down by accusing them of masquerading. I won’t stand for people putting other groups down on this site.
The irony of your accusation is obviously lost on you since you are masquerading as Zizou.
Unless it IS really you, Zizou … If it’s really you, we are honoured.
If you are just a Singaporean masquerading as a frenchman, then please, stop hounding the A DIvision boys.
How come no coverage on B Division and C Division tournament?
The best players are palying in these tournament and not this overhyped A Division tournament. Lets face it, most of our future National players are playing in the B and C Tournament. Really would like to see more coverage for these players as they are growing up and lighting up the school soccer scene rather then reading about future accountants, doctors, lawyers etc masquerading as soccer players (some cant even kick the ball properly)
During my time in the 80s, when the VIs(Now called the ITEs) participated in the A Division, you will barely see any JC in the Q-F of the Nationals A Division (for a JC to qualify for the Nationals is already a big deal)
VOTE FOR ACJCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!
sau chiu, daniel kao and dj are really good players!!!!
VOTE FOR MALCOM YONG FROM ACJC!
HE WILL ‘ole’ EVREYONE ON THE OPPOSING TEAM.
ya… i think that the polls are not really accurate. Within JJ soccer team itself, some bench player have more votes than what my friends and i think are quality players
Some players with more than 10 votes doesn’t even exist in A Division football.
come on people vote for JJC player like Zachary, Kok Yao, Harrison and Brian. These are the quality players of JJC…I am very proud of them when i see them playing together.
if votes are to be made on the basis of performances, then the current line-up that has been voted thus far shouldn’t stand.
great individual performers frm rjc and even sajc have been left out and i guess it’s becos they arent doing well as a team. if thats the case, then we should actually vote for even the injured, based on their reputation. and if i was the only one voting, it would go like this ;
GK : ACJC’s
Defender : ACJC’s no. 26, NJC’s no.4, MJC’s no.8
Midfielder: NJC’s no. 9 and SAJC’s captain.
Striker : too many!
Muhd Afrizal (#19, left winger, Jurong JC)
yea chester was vs vc..
some players nominated are also not first team players. benched but still nominated huh. pffft. :p oh well. popularity also counts!
If you look carefully, the JJC players have been included.
ya i think tt Harrison and Kok Yao of JJC shoud be included…i feel that they are the icon of JJ soccer team
there’s a few gd players not up there…
Alan (#14, defender, meridian junior college)
