CCAB, Tuesday, May 6, 2008 – Millenia Institute beat Anderson Junior College 2-0 in a Round 2 National A Division Girls’ Hockey Championship game earlier in the week.
MI players demonstrated their flair right from the whistle. They showed deft touches with their sticks, making many mazy dribbles around their AJC counterparts and it wasn’t surprising when the first chance of the game fell to MI. A shot was taken but the AJC keeper made a quick save and the rebound fell to another MI player in the D. However, the MI player failed to make best use of this opportunity and instead dribbled her way out of the boundary when she was just inches away from the goal.
Minutes later, the MI winger broke past the defense from the right and found herself one-on-one with the AJ keeper and she clinically placed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal for a 1-0 MI lead. 10 minutes later, MI tore through the porous AJ defense to score a second and enter the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
MI continued their attacking ways in the second half but failed to add anymore to their tally. Besides keeping up the rate of their attacks, the MI defense also remained stout and did not allow AJ any fair chance at goal. However, they seem to lack stamina towards the last half of the game. By then, it was too late for AJC to mount any comeback and MI was content to keep the score at status quo. With this victory, MI stand a chance of qualifying if AJC fail to beat St Andrew’s Junior College as well.
