CCAB, Tuesday, May 13, 2008 – They say that a battle between siblings is often the bloodiest. When Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) met Anglo-Chinese Junior College on the hockey field, it was a no-holds-barred, winner-take-all game. The situation was precarious as ACJC needed to win by more than two goals to qualify while ACS(I) also needed to score more than two goals, but to qualify as top seed for the group. With all the elements set for a dramatic finish, both teams fought hard to the end.
ACJC nearly had a disastrous start when a routine back pass was overhit and went past the last man. The goalkeeper was alert and immediately rushed out to kick the ball away. However he could only kick the ball to an ACS(I) player who took a quick pot shot at goal with defenders closing down on him. Luckily for ACJC, the shot went wide of the target. ACS(I) continued their barrage on the ACJC goal, earning penalty corners along the way. ACS(I) came close to taking the lead when a deflected shot hit the top of the post. The key player for these set plays was ACS(I)’s #69 Jaspreet Singh and he showed a lethal range with his shots. It was not long before half-time when ACS(I) converted their first set play. A routine set-up saw the ball worked to Jaspreet who smashed a wonderful shot to the bottom corner of the goal.
Not satisfied with the single goal, ACS(I) kept up the pressure attacking ACJC. Right after the break, from yet another penalty corner, Jaspreet hit the ball hard goalwards and the ball found its way into the goal again. With two goals in the bag, the ACS(I) team seemed content to contain ACJC’s passage of play. In another comedy of errors, the ACS(I) goalkeeper rushed out to kick the ball but missed the ball. This allowed the ACJC forward to sneak in for the easiest of tap-ins. Now with all to play for, the ACJC team found renewed vigour to attack again.
However it was not to be. ACS(I) winger Roshen took the ball away from an ACJC player and launched a counter attack on his own. A wonderful solo effort saw him running straight towards goal and he delivered the killer knockout blow with a well-taken shot. A fourth goal was added with the clock winding down, sealing the fate of ACJC. It was a well-fought match between the two teams but once ACS(I) peeled ahead, it was hard for ACJC to catch up. ACS(I) will now face St Andrew’s JC in the semi-finals on 16th May (Friday).

i totally agree that sajc deserved to win for semis. they showed they want it and they got it.
acsi beat acjc rather comprehensively, 4-1 was the appropriate scoreline . The first goal for ACSI was definitely not a misflick. The ACJC goal was a terrible mistake by the ACSI keeper who miskicked the ball, causing it to hit the post and travelling into the path of an ACJC player to score in an empty net.
IN the semi finals between acsi and sajc. acsi came up against a very well organised team in acjc and was out of ideas to counter the very tightly positioned sajc players. acsi’s normal routine of hits and scoops were countered superbly by the sajc players who appeared clam and composed opposed to the nervous acsi players. though acsi would have been a better team, sajc deserved to win on the day.
in any case, grats to acsi and gd luck for 3rd/4th placing vs vjc
sorry first acsi goal may not have been a misflick. but its still the postman’s fault as the ball was going in his direction and the keeper anticipated the shot wrongly and didnt even make an attempt to save it.
acsi should be in the finals with their performance up to the semis. the only slight hiccup they had was not converting the penalty against vjc. better luck next time guys
If ACSi were to play the way they played sajc during semis, they probably wouldn’t even be too much a threat to vjc… sorry but from my opinion as a spectator, ACSi was totally out for that game. sajc showed much more desire to win and I really think acsi did not even put in their fullest effort into the game. and well, the game was boring…
and “someone” is so right… a pity acsi did not get to meet rjc for the entire A div. Firstly, it would have been nice to watch the game, with the rivalry existing between both schools and secondly, that best defensive record wouldn’t have stand…
lol and serial rapist? u make it sounds like rjc is some criminal for winning…
i agree with emokid. acs(i) does stand the best chance of upsetting rjc. If im not wrong, the previous meeting they had with each other was in the under-21 tourney back in jan-feb and the score was 2-1 to rjc. gotta say a good fight by the acs guys though.
vj’s got zong he and bernard. great players
that said, acsi screwed up in the semis, so lets face it. nehmine lah…
anyone interested in watching the serial rapist have his way with sajc on thursday?

ya ACS(I) best defensive record is because they haven get a chance to play rjc. lol
ACS (i) were amazing la… its just really sad tat they din make it into the finals… they seemed to be the onli ones being capable of beating RJC… GOOD LUCK guys on ur match against VJC…. i have not heard of anyone gd in VJC as of yet.. and din see anyone shine in their previous game against ACS(I). oh btw ACS(I) stil has the best defensive record…
ac, i disgree with ur idea that the first acsi goal was a misflick. it was a good decieve drag flick that Jaspreet had thought out well before e match. but its true tt e match was closer than e score suggested.
5, u’re a teammate? okay okay. yeah man i feel really pleased to have been part of such a united team. players dont win championships, teams do. but this year was just very unlucky and lets think of wednesday, 5.
achockey, u’re a teammate? i’m amazed at how u’ve started running so much lately, (laugh?) but u rock man.
hell no was the first drag flick a mistake. it was a beautiful deceive flick. please get your info right before you comment on shots ac. its not nice and by the way for the pictures #69 is Jaspreet not Jaspeet
nah. it was the keeper’s mistake. the ball was bouncing really slow towards him after 2 deflections on it’s way into the D from a free hit. he mistimed his kick and it came back off the post.
agree tt it was a pretty close game though. acsi just took their chances when it mattered.
we were no where near top gear like we were against vjc. against acjc it was alright. it proved costly in the semis against sa though. sadly.
i agree with qidahs. this was a very special team i’m honoured to have been in.
next year acsi a div hockey!

acjc goal was not from goalkeeper’s mistake. the acjc player’s deflection hit the post and he scored off his own rebound. first acsi goal was acjc postman’s mistake. he missed jaspreet’s flick. match was closer than scoreline suggests
