Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Friday, July 11, 2008 – Innova Junior College (IJC) beat Temasek JC (TJC) 4-0 in an A Division girls floorball match. Temasek JC, having lost to Raffles JC and Meridian JC previously, have effectively dropped out running for the championship after their latest defeat. The game took place whereby one could see the readily defensive girls on their feet. This constant and determined effort broke down all resistance and swept away all obstacles.

Slowly scoring one goal after another were the Innova JC girls. Frankly, it was seen to be a rather aggressive match as there were petite bodies sardined by the girls themselves.

There were a few significant shots spotted throughout, namely the strong one by IJC #13, whose shot was too forceful that it somehow caused a miscue. Also, there were rather defensive and challenging tackles, namely by TJC #9 and Innova JC #28. Nevertheless, there were extreme good spirit within the teams that received deserving applause. Determination from the TJC girls were shown despite the being at the losing end.

The match was more or less a repetition of players dashing from one end of the court to another. There were several close shaves, but the game seemed rather draggy. Every now and then however, there would be a skillful, sudden but sharp shots scored by an IJC player. A significant brilliance was at the last 7th minute, where IJC put in a shot to crown themselves the eventual winner, and sealing TJC’s fate with a 4-0 win.

Whether they won or lost, they all carried themselves with pride either way upon exiting the court. In the end, it was extra effort that separated the winner from runner-up. But winning does take a lot more that that too. It starts with complete command of the fundamentals. Then it takes desire, determination, discipline, and self-sacrifice. And finally, it takes a great deal of love, fairness and respect for the entire team. Put all these together and even if the team doesn't win, how can they lose? Hugs and screams of joy were exclaimed as the players exited the court, with pride, for at least, they know that they had done their best. Well done girls!
