Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Thursday, July 10, 2008 – It was the first A Division floorball season for both teams with their schools having only started floorball this year. Both wanted to prove their worth by winning their first-ever competitive floorball match. Ultimately, it was Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) who won through their strong offensive attack and accurate finishing with a 6-3 victory over Temasek Junior College (TJC). Yet, my heart goes out to TJC, who scored their first goal of the season and showed their strong passion for floorball throughout the match.
For the first few minutes of the match, it seemed as though TJC had the upper hand as they had more scoring chances that were either foiled by the ACJC goalkeeper or near-misses. In the end it was the ACJC Baoren (#15) who scored first, tapping in the ball during a goal melee at the 06:49 mark. Not giving up, TJC applied half-court pressure on their opponents. While it was successful in keeping the ball in the attacking half, it also exposed gaping holes in their defense because once an ACJC player get hold of the ball at mid-court, it was a clear run at goal for him.
Indeed, the ACJC Zul (#2) would send hard and fast balls at the goal whenever he had a chance to and at 13:49, he whacked in an unstoppable goal from mid-court to make it a 2-0 ACJC lead. The first period even had to be extended by a few seconds for TJC to have a free-hit which unfortunately, they did not capitalize on.
Although the first period ended with two goals in ACJC’s favour, credit must be given for TJC for never backing down. In the second half, ACJC scored first again at 02:22 when an assisted pass by ACJC Baoren (#15) allowed ACJC #7 to slot the ball into goal for a 3-0 lead. This time round, TJC found their footing a mere 21 seconds later as TJC #20 scored a stunning goal after successfully getting the ball. Emotions ran high in the TJC team as it was their very first goal in the competition and it was evident on their faces. The goal raised the morale of the TJC team and they fought harder than before to improve on the 1-3 scoreline.
At 10:53, the TJC #7 found himself right in front of the goal after receiving the goal and promptly whacked the ball in to make it just 2-3 and raise TJC hopes even further. However, the next goal by ACJC was a lucky shot from a rebound by the ACJC #4 at the 13:08 mark.
Again, seven minutes into the third quarter, TJC managed to close the gap with their #73 scoring to make it 3-4. TJC believed they now had a real chance of winning as this was their best showing in the competition. Alas, two accurate shots by the ACJC goalscorer Baoren (#15) flew straight into the net, effectively sealing a 6-3 victory for his team.
Both young teams demonstrated potential during the match and will be forces to be reckoned with in the future. With the experience from this competition, they will evolve into stronger teams in the future. All the best for the rest of the championship.
Editors note: If you recognise yourself or your team mates in any of the photos, feel free to leave the names behind in the comments section and we will update the captions accordingly. Names for the ACJC and TJC players mentioned in the story will also be much appreciated. Thanks!
haiz..pointless arguing..you not happy go take it up with them la..no balls or what? if you really have an issue go confront them lor..
HAHAHAHA OMG WHY ARE YOU ALL BRINGING THIS UP MATCH IS OVER RELAX LA, CHICKEN DANCE AND SCHOOL CREST ARE JUST QUEER CELEBRATIONS THATS ALL(acceptable whattt). BTW ACJC IS PLAYING FLOORBALL JUST FOR KICKS, HEARD THAT THEY DINDT EVEN TRAIN SO IF THEY MANAGED TO EVEN SCORE GOALS KUDOS MAN. anyway good luck to yjc and mjc for the next round!
my first impression at this comment box was ‘wow’
apparently acjc floorballers don’t really give their school a good name, and i’ve witnessed this for myself.
during the mj-ac match on monday, i heard one of the player from acjc shouting “since they make it hard for us, we’ll make it hard for them”. If i remember correctly, the player is #2 and this occured in the 3rd quarter.
@acjc players:
i believe basic sportsmanship tells you nt to run to opponent bench when u score a goal.as you claimed, you guys do play other team sports like rugby soccer and hockey. do you run to your opponent bench when u score a goal?
also at the 3rd period, acjc player #14 went in to push mj defender #7 with his hands, causing the mj defender to fall over the boards. I remembered this moment very vividly as it was right after mj #7 made a fantastic dribble down the side.
this leaves me puzzled about what the acjc wants to make of themselves.
Do they want everyone to think that they are a ‘dirty’ team?
Look at tjc. They’ve lost their first 3 matches, but never stopped trying. They finally won their 4th match against IJC, be it lucky or not. they’ve displayed sportsmanship in their play, and have no doubt earned a name for their school. They may not be the very best, but they’ll never stop trying. Instead, acjc would be the direct contrast to tjc. They’ve exhibited a lack of sportsmanship.
@acjc, all this argument about sportsmanship wouldn’t even be here if you HAD displayed your sportsmanship.
Take a look at the other articles, the comments are free of these arguments. Don’t you agree?
also, i must say that acjc #15 is extremely fast, and would probably be the sole reason for the fight in the mj-ac match. the other players
Oh nono u got me wrong! i am totally in fvour of ac spirit and evryone i nvr said anyone was arrogant i was replying to the tags on the dancing and school badge
kissing comments! relax dude
To supporter: The scorer was ACJC #2. He wasn’t kissing his school badge. He was showing off and flashing his school badge while running across YJ’s coaches and players. Perhaps he should have more sportsmanship to know to celebrate the proper way. Not to be rude and ill-mannered and spoiling ACJC’s school image. Thank you.
To lalaboy: Nobody said Baoren was arrogant. I have to admit he is a really fast and good player. We all know he is in the nationals team. And true enough, he played really well, even though he didn’t play in the match with YJ.
oh no the acjc players were not arrogant at all IMO hah they were probably jus proud and jus for ur info, cheong baoren DJ also played for U19 and ZARF in div 1
oh yea..hello kissing school crest is akin to arrogance? we just love our school.dont you?hahha
On behalf of acjc..the whole team except DJ #15 was new to the game so we didnt know what to do what not to do..we were discussing on the bus that he (#7)would do a dance if we scored and we didnt know that we couldnt celebrate in our opponent’s half. All of us have rugby , hockey or soccer as our main cca and we only had one official training for floorball before the season thus we do not know the rules. So if we offended anyone we apologise.
ACJC # 15 baoren is one whom his teammates should look up to. he is a great player and has played a major role in their win against TJC. He isnt one who is arroagant and is a good role model for his teammates.
To observer: I would say I was pretty amused by #7 little dance. I think he should stick to playing floorball. Haha.
To supporter: They were losing… How arrogant can they get?
Seriously, guys, take all these goal celebrations with a pinch of salt. After all, people do weird things when they are happy. Remember Peter Crouch’s robot dance after he scored goals for England? Bizzare.
I totally agree with observer’s view. I distinctively remember ac’s first match against yj. Being the neutral, I did not take sides but yet when ac were getting thrashed and when they scored their first or second goal, the scorer ran towards the yj side kissing his school crest arrogantly. I couldn’t help but feel a little disgusted at their arrogance plus lack of sportsmanship.
Firstly, well done to TJC for such strong fighting spirits. I watched the entire match throughout. I noticed that ACJC #7 was perhaps a little too excited after scoring his first goal against TJC and started dancing/celebrating in TJC’s half. I could see that the TJCians were terribly infuriated but they continued to persevere throughout the match.
It was disheartening to see ACJC people acting like that. Since we are all sportsman, why do we not show sportsmanship in the match? Winning is not everything. It is how we play the game.
ACJC #4 #7 unnamed too.
Thank you all for the names! I hope TJCians come in to name the players soon!
To wondering: yes, MJC scored 24 goals in two games without conceding a single goal.
To Ajani: Thanks. I didn’t realise that mistake: I will change the fact that NYJC conceded 11 goals.
To acjc: It will have to depend on the photographer whether she wants to release the photos but i can try asking her.
All the best for the game today, I will be down to cover them again! =)
Well done TJC and ACJC!!! 🙂
Anyway I’ve done my own table throughout the season – MJC is indeed at 24 goals with 2 12-0 victories over TJC and IJC.
However, NYJC has conceded 11, not just 9 – after losing RJC 5-1, and VJC 6-4.
I’ve a question though – will the final rankings be done on goal difference or goals scored, in the case of a tie in points? I do know that last year teams were ranked on goal difference – will the system stick this year?
2 Zul acjc
acjc picture 2 with ball Kim Yeong
acjc picture 2 onlooking Jing Han
do you have more photos?
is there an error in the table?
mjc got 24 goals in 2 games?
or is it 3 games?
it’d be really impressive to get 24 goals in 2 games, which averages to 12goals per game.
and they’ve got an awesome clean sheet till date, with 0 goals conceded.
GO MJC!
Thank you. 🙂
Hope all the TJCians and ACJCians come in to name the unnamed players! =)
Baoren #15 acjc.
