Kallang Netball Centre, Wednesday, July 9, 2008 – It was another easy win for River Valley High School as they strolled through the game to crush West Spring Secondary School 68-10 in an Under-17 Netball League game. This victory set River Valley High up nicely for their final against Yuan Ching Secondary on July 12 at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
The River Valley High players put in a spectacular performance in the first quarter as they outscored West Spring 16-2, giving the latter little hope of putting any pressure on River Valley High to win the game. In the second quarter, River Valley High maintained their performance to pile on the score. West Spring tried their best to survive the onslaught but to no avail as River Valley led 33-6 at the half. The last two quarters were more of the same and River Valley High finished the game 68-10 winners.
Poor handling of the ball, bad footing and weak passes contributed to the fate of West Spring. Poor marksmanship was another contributing factor as they had many shots on goal but little accuracy. In addition, West Spring failed to effectively defend, giving River Valley numerous opportunities to score. Despite losing the game, West Spring were cheerful as they had an instructive game with a strong competitor.
The light rain made the grounds wet and the ball slippery and the West Spring players became less confident as a result. The rain could be blamed for the drop in the accuracy of the River Valley GS, Lixuan, who performed better in the previous matches.
River Valley showed good team coordination, determination and confidence. Even a collision between the River Valley WD Han Ni and the West Spring WA Wan Qian did not slow Han Ni down. She picked herself up and continued her good performance.
